This is confusing

I recently assembled a build from the following parts. I read the motherboard manual carefully as well as the manuals for the PSU, vid card, cpu, etc to make sure I connected all the pins and cables right. I doubled checked the connections after the first time it wouldn?t post, everything looked good. I was very careful to avoid static damage by touching a grounded metal object before handling any components as well as wearing a static guard. I also checked the obvious problems for this ? main power cable not plugged in, 24 pin atx/ 4 pin cpu connector not in correctly, power cable from the case not in correctly. The first thing I thought was that the power cable from the case was not in right, but I checked it to make sure it was in right according to the mobo manual.

Any suggestions? Basically the thing won?t budge when I try to turn it on; not a single led or fan turns on, and it is completely silent. Could it be a faulty mobo or PSU? Not sure what the problem is here

edit: also checked the switch on the psu to no avail

Seasonic s12 430W, athlon 3800x2 am2, gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4 nforce4 am2 mobo, corsair ddr2, evga 7800gt, generic flopp and cd-rw, zalman heatsink, nzxt trinity case.

Not to be a wise guy you did check the power switch on the back of the PSU. Also the swithch connections to the MoBo?

you need to start with only the mobo, PSU, CPU, and ram on the board and see if the fans, etc spin up. if nothing happens then, you can narrow it down easier. do you have an old spare mobo to check the psu? if you do, then you can check that component easily(doubt you have a multi-meter) if nothing still happens try the same test minus the ram. this will further narrow down to mobo or cpu.

If you can, try this test with the mobo out of the case to be sure nothing is shorting out the bottom of the mobo.

If the above works, then some other add on is causing the problem. try them one at a time until you determine which is the culprit.

First part of a build is to assemble the mb, cpu/hsf, ram, and vid card on the BENCH. This proves out the basic parts when you fire it up like this. Once you put everything into the case, you radically increase the number of things that can go wrong, makig trouble-shooting many times tougher.

You can remove the power switch connector and momentarily short the the pins for it with a pocket screwdriver to eliminate the switch as a problem. You can use a piece of wire to short the green wire to a black one on the 20/24 pin mb connector to test the psu.
