This is driving me crazy...

I've spent all day trying to get an additional machine running, and it's not going well to say the least. First off, the hardware:

Shuttle AK11
Duron 1Ghz
128MB PC133 SpecTek RAM
Visiontek Geforce 2 GTS-V
Alpha PEP66
Antec 250W PSU

When I first hooked everything up, it wouldn't post. Fans spun up, LED's lighted up, but no video, no beep codes. I swapped out the video card first with a spare TNT, same thing. Then I tried a regular Geforce 2 GTS, same thing. Just to make sure, I tested the GTS-V in another machine, and it didn't work, no video. So it seems like the motherboard AND the video card are dead, right?

Well, at that point, I decided to take out the Duron and test it in another machine. The Duron doesn't work in the other machine (an Epox 8k7a). I take a spare Athlon, put it in the Shuttle AK11, with at this point the TNT, and it POSTS! So at this point, I think something might actually be going well, so I swap the TNT for the GTS-V and it POSTS again!

I decide, even though it seems like the Duron is dead (much like the rest of the components at one point), to try it again in the Shuttle, and by goly it worked! So now it looks like absolutely nothing is dead.

Buuuut, my success is shortlived. I go into the BIOS, change the date and disable integrated sound, save the BIOS, and when it tries to restart, NO POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The same problem that I had in the beginning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH somebody help me! Please!! How the heck can I fix any of this????

UPDATE: I just realized there was one component I didn't swap out, the RAM. So I just swapped the 128MB DIMM with a 256MB Crucial DIMM, same no-POST crap. Help please!!!

My friend had an issue with instability and what fixed it was the power source.

The one time my computer wouldn't post was cause I overclocked it like a mad man. Oh, and one time the HSF wasn't touching the processor on my graphics card .

I know how you feel... it gets pretty frustrating when you can't find what's wrong. When my computer's screwy I just calm down and try and isolate the problem much like you're doing.

Might be the power supply. Most AMD stuff is rated for 300 watt power supplies. The duron requires less than an Athlon, but the GF card eats up power.

Thanks for the support guys, anyone else got some ideas? This is drivin' me nuts over here. While we're at it, anybody know where I can get a cheap AMD approved PSU?

Loose connection between the mobo and PSU? What if you try some of the other set ups that worked for you and see if it will post upon repested reboots?

The only other setup that would POST was with the Athlon, which is a 1.33Ghz, and it would POST everytime. This makes absolutely no sense, any other ideas?

I don't know if you tried this, but maybe you could try updating the mobo's bios when you have that Athlon proc in there.

Woah... it just got ALOT wierder. I left the machine for the night and I just fired it up and it POSTS! And I didn't change anything! Buuut, the BIOS listed the cpu as a 650Mhz Duron (6.5x100) and I just restarted it, and it's back to the same no POST crap. Maybe I've got a sh1tty unlocking job? Also, when it POSTed, the BIOS gave me a "CMOS Checksum error"

Let me see if I fully understand the situation. Your athlon posts just fine in the shuttle rig. But the duron won't. But it posted for a bit. Is this correct? First off you should check and see if the duron (morgan core) is compatible with that shuttle mobo. I know the the ABIT KT7A Raid has to be version 1.3 or higher. Maybe there is a similar issue with that shuttle. It also didn't post in your Epox rig, so I actually would start to wonder if the chip has issues. I would RMA it, this actually sounds like you just received a bum chip.

Oh, I didn't know that you had tried to unlock it. Clean off your unlocking job and see if it posts.
