Squirrels are intelligent and graceful creatures which add elements of beauty and energy to the natural world. May they all live long and healthy lives as they go about their daily routines.

Discriminating and discerning epicure squirrels enjoying the finest walnut dining in the most intimate surroundings.

In this light, I can't see how these furry gourmets could ever be described as tree rats.

My wife let me know the mini-van was running sluggish. Wouldn't accelerate very well.
When I started poking around under the hood, I found the air filter housing intake side stuffed to the brim with dry cat food. About a small bags worth. The mouse would grab food, go into the car, into the 2-3 feet of hose to the air intake filter housing, and stash it there.

There was no evidence of a mouse in the car/garage that I could find.

I have my own Squirrel story, was golfing one day and parked the cart close to the next tee box and went to putt out, came back to find fine orange something coming down from the tree we had parked under. Turns out a Squirrel had spotted my toast-e-cheese crackers in the cart cubbyhole and snatched them as we putted, he sat about '15 above me munching away, almost mocking me. I was going to fling a 5 iron at him but thought, "wait, I'll probably miss and get the club stuck in the tree", the crafty rodent had won the day as I skulked off.

Often it comes down to squirrels versus birds in the competition for human affection, and although I have seen much evidence of squirrel hate by bird lovers, I choose order Mammalia almost every time. Except when my cat chases my chickens, then all bets are off.

I might be spoiled by my northerly clime and by my "girls" who turn bugs into eggs for us, at the cost of prodigious amounts of crap.
