How the hell did he have a sharp enough piece of metal to cut through the bone? It was a piece from his head set? WTF?

Yeah how the heck did he saw if off, as he was being devoured, in time with just a piece from his headset. This must have been a sharp ass piece of metal.

I am not sure if I would have had the presence of mind to do this, so yes he is very mentally tough.

I guess in hindsight he's probably wishing he turned of the damned machine BEFORE sticking his arm in it...

Damn---anybody remember that guy that cut his leg(I think it was his leg)off using a pocket knife? He was out logging or something, and a tree fell on him. After he cut his leg off, he crawled to his car/truck/whatever and finally was able to call someone for help.

edit: found story about it:

<< In the summer of 1993, traumatic dissociation saved Donald Wyman's life. While working in a remote Pennsylvania area clearing timber, Wyman suffered a terrible accident. A huge tree fell on him, pinning his left leg. He screamed for help for an hour, all the while trying in vain to dig his leg out from under the huge tree. Then Wyman made a decision. Because of the seriousness of his injuries and the remoteness of the area, he knew that he would die before anyone found him. So he made a tourniquet from a rawhide bootlace and used his chainsaw wrench to tighten it. Then, using a pocket knife, he set about methodically cutting off his left leg about six inches below the knee. When he'd severed the leg, he crawled to a bulldozer 500 feet away, drove it about 2,000 feet to his pickup truck, then drove the truck about two miles to a farmhouse. The farmer, who called paramedics, described Wyman as "sharp and mentally strong" >>

He probably didn't have to cut through bone. The machine probably broke them for him, he probably just cut through the remaining flesh.

Guy I worked with lost his little finger in a car engine. He had his hand in a old engine trying to get a timing chain on the lower gear and leaned on the starter switch he had wired up. The crank came around and caught his finger between the front of the engine block and the crank (people who know about car engines will cringe at the thought of that). He called to his mom to get a knife so he could finish cutting it off and she brought him a butter knife . His younger brother took the finger to school the next day for show and tell. Got to love the stories from the old days.

Anyone remember the teenager who had both arms ripped off and managed to get back into his house and dial 911? They managed to reattach both arms and he regained some function in them...I'll look for the story...of course it was some sort of farming incident.

If it was me, I would just yelled "Take me Jesus" and dived right in there. Can't live without my right arm anyways....hmm..perhaps i've said too much.

How do you even pick the phone up, and then hold it to talk into it?!?!?!?

I think he did it with his tongue an you can yell. I'm guessing his phone was touch tone. Just imagining if he had a rotary phone OH the horror.

Was that the one where he stood in the bathtub waiting for 911 to arrive?

I remember that one vaguely. It was in Iowa several years ago. The kid got both arms caught in a tractor PTO shaft or something. Yeah, he ran in the house, called 911, and then jumped in the tub because he was worried about getting blood on the carpet.
I know that they got both arms back on, but I don't know if they worked out OK in the long run or not.
