I recently bought a Samsung P2250 LCD.It has an optimum resolution of 1080p @ 60Hz.
My problem is when I connect it using either VGA/DVI, I'm getting resolutions upto 1280x1024 both in Windows 7 and nVidia CP.Since, my board doesn't support, I installed XP SP2 to remove any driver issues, if any.
Now, after installing all the drivers, I tested it using first, the 9600GT and then the IGP and now It's showing resolutions upto 2048x1536!!!
But, when I switch the res to anything above 1280x1024, the image stretches/goes beyond screen. When I look in the monitor info in both XP and 7, the monitor is recognized as a 17" CRT (i.e why 1280x1024)...what the hell ??
I took it to the Samsung tech guys, they checked on their two systems, on one it worked nicely and on the other didn't (I mean, WTF)!!! Both of their systems had Windows XP, used Onboard 945G Chipset graphics, used VGA and the resolutions were available upto 2048x1536. When asked why on one it worked and on another didn't, he replied that "some settings there".
I thought that this could be my Video card issue but since I checked by disabling it also, I don't know what is going on ?
Could a mobo have a 1280x1024 limit ? If yes, can it stop the video card from giving output @ that res ?
I can post additional details if you want.
Please help me, I don't know what to do.

My mobo is an Intel D945GTP (doesn't support Pentium Dual-Core or Core2Duo, only supports till Pentium D) and Video card is a Zotac 512MB 9600GT.

Since no one else is biting...Computers aren't magic; there's a reason for the poor behavior. First check the documentation on your mb, especially the gfx chip, and see what the maximum resolution is. If it supports your monitors res, uninstall the drivers, and reinstall them. Do the same for your discrete gfx card. In the Nvidia control panel, set all scaling to off, and do the same for the onboard gfx. Also, when using the addon gfx card, disable onboard in BIOS. If that works ok, you can then research why they don't play nice together if you need them both working at the same time.

First of all, thanks for your reply, I was losing hope already.
I checked my mb manual, it consists of Intel GMA950 gfx chip. So, I checked the document on GMA950.It says that my mb can output max. 2048x1536 @ 75Hz. When it comes to HD, it can output 720p and 1080i, not 1080p which my display supports (so onboard is a no-go).
I don't think I need to reinstall my drivers since I reinstalled Windows 7 and Windows XP after my purchase.
In Win 7, when I set scaling to off and change the resolution, it again reverts back to "Use Displays in-built scaling", why ?!
In nvidia control panel, it says that the native resolution of my monitor is 1280x1024 and 1280x720p as recommended in XP and 7.
Update: After tinkering a little bit, I got 1080p on XP via gfx card, but still don't know what to do in 7.
What I did was I installed the old nvidia drivers provided on the CD in XP, in that, there is an option--treat as HDTV--I checked it.Then, I chose 1080p as the signal via DVI-D, voila, I got 1080p @ 60Hz crisp display. But, I wanna use 7, what should I do, there are no such settings in the latest drivers (or is there?).
Do you think the incompatibility of my mb with windows 7 could cause my gfx card to not fully work upto it's caliber ??

I don't think it's the mb. As long as you're using an addon card, the mb should be out of the picture. The latest drivers for your 9600gt are here(assuming Win7 32bit)...

I don't have a TV as a monitor, so I can't really play around with it myself. I would expect you'd have the same options in Win7 as you do in XP though. If the newest drivers don't work, try using some older drivers. Sometimes they break functionality with new releases, but I wouldn't expect something as basic as monitor scaling/resolution to break.

Okay, I'll give it a try.
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit with the latest drivers.
My display isn't a TV.It's a normal 22" HD monitor!
How much old drivers can I go for? Windows 7 support was started recently, I think, right? My gfx card bundled cd supports till Vista x64, anyways where should I search for all the old drivers ?
