Could be. Also might be a water line for water cooling? But at that size, I highly doubt it. The angle of it doesn't make sense either....

Nothing outdoors is completely waterproof. Gaskets and seals degrade and water will eventually get in. It getting pummeled with water every day like that guarantees it'll degrade faster than usual.

Not really. Lots of electrical wiring in there, the case is ventilated to keep the interior dry and louvered to prevent rain but not air from entering, not water from an upward spray. What we see here is a case of the wrong sprinkler in the wrong location

I'm sure the appropriate UL standard takes sprinklers into consideration since these units are usually mounted at ground level.

My industry requires sprinkler/rain testing for anything mounted within 4' of the ground.
Normal units are mounted higher and only require rain testing.
