When I first got the drive, I shut everything down and ran SISOFT Sandra benchmarks on it. I got around 26000 every time. It was quite nice. Later, even with everything shut down and the disk defragged, I'm getting 21,000 or so. Huh?

What speeds do you guys get on the disk benchmark? This is really annoying me . . . I'm going to be reformatting soon again just to clear up some other issues (when I first did this, I moved the old hard drive's data onto this one, and then booted from it . . . but my C drive remained the old one, and when I reinstalled windows onto my SCSI drive, it left the boot record and stuff on the C drive, so if its disconnected, I can't boot . . . thats why I need a reformat) but its strange that the performance would degrade like that.

Back to the final question, what speeds on Sandra do you guys get?

There is nothing wrong with your drive. Sandra stinks, and you are seeing why. Use a more reliable benchmark.

I actually have one of those drives too, I just didn't respond because I don't have the benchmarking software

But the one thing that worries me is the change in speed. I wouldn't be worried if it had of been low the whole time . . . I'd of just consulted a different benchmark, but 26k to 19-21k is a BIG difference

As they have already said, sysoft is not a great benchmark, try hdtach, or if you have an adaptec card (retail), it probably came with EZ-SCSI, which comes with a benchmarking utility.

just ran ez-scsi's scsibench32 and got the following results with mine:


Random i/o: 5562 kb/sec
Sequential i/o: 25691 kb/sec
Same Sector i/o: 34626 kb/sec

with transfer size set at 64
