THIS THREAD IS STUPID, SO ARE HALF OF THE POSTERS
Sorry, had to rant.
All you idiots who can't see the value of a Pentium D system are just that, idiots.
"Oh My God, Intel sucks, AMD is waaaaaay better even though it costs more it's worth it, it's only like $0.27 a day"
Hey dumbass, I don't have the extra $200 to blow on an AMD solution, I want my computer NOW.
Oh, and for all the fanboys, INTEL ISN'T THAT MUCH WORSE.
See here
Intel Pentium D
OUTPERFORMS the AMD systems.
Although that's the high end of Intel, I would guess the 2.8 would be equal to the AMD system, and CHEAPER, that's right, Intel CHEAPER than AMD. Better value for money in these everyday users tasks.
our multitasking scenarios were a mixed bag of results between AMD and Intel. The multitasking gaming tests were obviously very strongly in favor of AMD, but the general usage tests were more mixed between AMD and Intel. In many cases, Intel's Pentium D actually pulled ahead in terms of performance.
Intel is CHEAPER and about equal/sometimes ahead in general use multi-tasking. Not for the gamer, but Intel have never been good for gaming, and games aren't multi-threaded yet in the main anyway, so single core is fine for games.
But generally Intel isn't far off AMD and it's cheaper.
Now, lets forget ALL of that, and get back to th real point of this thread: AMD needing better marketing.
Yes, they do. Many people don't really have a clue AMD even exists, they need gaudy adverts, they need presence. They need to sponser a football team or a racing team with major money.
They have small adverts on the Ferrari F1 cars, but in general they have no brand in the mainstream. They need to get their name out there if they really want to take 33% marketshare by 2008.
I believe Intel's move away from Netburst will also be a big boom for AMD, as if they use the Pentium M architecture, clock speeds will hurt, and they won't be able to rely on numbers. AMD needs a brand name so they can fight the next gen of Intel processors.
