This is why Cell phones should be baned in all States while driving.

I've seen so many people make bad decisions or just not pay attention while on the phone....let's just say I get irked in the while in the car.

I didn't say I was a cell phone user while in my car. I just don't think it is neccessary for the governmet to pass a law on this. I live in a democracy though, so I accept what laws are passed.

Whether you use one or not, I'd still prefer that they tell you not to. I think there have been studies that show that using a cell phone makes you far more likely to get in an accident, so that there tells me that there ought to be a law against it. I can't say I've never done it myself, but only on roads with no traffic.

The law I'm talking about (That is in effect in alot of cities in TX, just not enforced) is you must use a hands free kit while talking and driving. I believe this is the same law as CA has.

I'm posing my reply specificly to those for the ban of cell phones and I hope no one will take offense in what I'm about to say.

Banning cell phones while driving is like banning chewing gum while walking, banning use of make up (women mostly), banning listening to the radio and more importantly driving a SUV.
To start off, I want to say that I talk on the phone and drive all the time and on top of that I drive a manual transmission car. Yes I do this on the highway as well as in the city. Yes I find dialing a number distracting. HOWEVER Hands free operation still requires you to dial the number!!!! If out of let's say 100 cell phone related accidents, 5 will be because someone was just holding the phone and the other 90 trying to dial a number and the other 5 trying to find a ringing phone.
I find that peoples driving skills vary from a completly not knowing how to make a turn to a pro driver that can avoid a 50 car pile up being in between the other 25 cars.

I'll stick to basic american theam of women can't drive.. Yes I personally think that most women driver's are not as good as most male drivers. Yes there are very horrible male drivers (my very close friend) and yes there are very good female drivers (my friend who drives like a pro race car driver).

So let's get back to cell phones, do they cause accidents or is it the people that don't know how to drive? It's the people! I see girls driving putting on make up, talking on the cell phone, changing cds and etc... I see guys that try to pass people on in the shoulder doing 120 while talking on the phone.. Phones have nothing to do with cell phone related accidents if it wasn't the phone it would be something else. I can't stand people bsing that cell phone are bad, don't like? Don't get one.. Don't tell me what to do. You can't drive and talk... Don't.... Don't tell me I can't do it either....
Is this Ironic or what? Women drivng and SUV (why she needs SUV to drive herself from her house to the kindergarden next door?), reaching for a cell phone crashed into the bus? Yes it is!
I HATE SUVS! Waste of gas = waste of money = support for terrorists = higher terrorism rate. Other cars on the road can't see what's ahead of them because SUV blocks all of the view = cause of additional accidents. SUVs speeding = can't stop as fast as a normal sedan = causing more accidents. Cell phones + Women in the SUV = all of the above... Prove me wrong. Most of them got an SUV cause they heard it's safer.. For who?

So you say cell phone should be banner, I say those that don't use SUV for it's sole purpose to tow, transport large cargo should be banned! Now what do you say about that? Something tells me you drive a SUV and you feel all warm and fuzzy inside each time you get on the road.

Well, even if you change the law there are still tons of people who have a blatant disregard... in my area there are signs ALL OVER on all the main roads

Just early today I saw a guy in front of my chatting away with one hand on wheel, other with cell phone glued to ear. All this as he drives by a cop going the other direction and then by said sign. And the cop didn't bother to turn around and nab the douchebag. He was driving an A4 2.8 Quattro meaning he had money... easy revenue for the police. I sell cell phones and I have a ton of people that have come in for headsets and then a similar amount that say they _don't_ talk on the phone while driving (haha, liars) and finally those that say they'll take their chances... sometimes I wish I could just get a giant plastic phone and hit them with it.

Studies have been done that have already proven that driving while talking on the cell phone makes you statistically more likely to get into an accident that a drunk driver. It's just like people who STILL don't wear seat belts when driving. I mean recently in Atlanta, Danny Heatley severely injured himself and a teammate in his Ferrari going 80 down a local road without seatbelts! WTF???!!!??? (According to my bro, its fairly common for the combination of both to happen down that particular road... everyone flys down it at 80 and not too many people belt up)

That is what we call an error in reasoning.. That is - a fundamental flaw in your argument. It is not sound.

It's sh!tty when people pick one new piece of tehnology to villianize because some people are very stupid with it.

I'm going to continue talking on my cell phone while driving (only to answer calls to say I will call back) and I will continue to have a safer driving record than 99% of other drivers. Banning cell phones does nothing other than give cops a new reason to pull you over. Banning cell phones would just ban cell phones. Why don't you just ban traffic accidents?

What a moron! I guess you didn't read all of the posts did you. I specifically stated they should use hands free kits. Not ban cell phones completely.

I almost got into a very serious accident today, directly due to a woman making a *horrible* decision while talking on her phone. To avoid it, I had to swerve and brake hard.

Some people just don't have what it takes to talk and drive. Unfortunately, there will never be a way to filter these jackasses out, so all you can do is drive as safely as YOU can. Pathetic, but true.
