You simply cannot survive on $15/hour let alone whatever it is set at today.
Oh?
You simply cannot survive on $15/hour let alone whatever it is set at today.
You simply cannot survive on $15/hour let alone whatever it is set at today. Something needs to happen to either raise salaries, or lower costs of living.
i went to mcdonalds yesterday for the first time in months. there was a new girl working the cash register taking my order with someone helping her. after i placed my order and waited for the food, the guy behind me ordered an ice cream cone. at this point, the trainer had stepped away.
after the guy ordered an ice cream cone, the new girl turned around and saw the ice cream machine and did not know how to use it. she then went and got the trainer and asked her what to do and said that she was not trained on how to use the ice cream machine.
this is the same ice cream machine that 5 year olds use at those "fill your own cup" frozen yogurt spots where you just pull the lever down and the ice cream just flows out.
i was pretty surprised that someone who is an adult working at a restaurant did not know how to use one of those machines. i'd be shocked if this person was making $15/hr.
The funny part is that you don't go to say Bulgaria or Rwanda expecting everyone else to speak your language, you know going there you are going to have to try to speak their language. Unfortunately people come here and expect us to learn their language.Foxconn is probably the "best" in China because it has Apple and their image machine kicking them in the ass. How bad are the other ones that don't get so much attention...
I know someone who spent 40 years in my country, full citizenship attained, but still can't make it through a phone call beyond "hello." After that, it's "sorly, I no speak english gut" -- I literally heard him say that multiple times. He had a union job with the municipality. My guess is that he never really did much at work.

In Brave new World, that behavior is known as sucking up. Why should suck-ups get paid more than fuck-ups. Just one little letter different. Hell, "f" and "s' used to be interchangeable!I started off at my current employer, warehouse work, making $9.50/hr and worked my way up and make over $50k now just by busting my ass and making sacrifices to move up. Sure I'm not rich, living in the LA area, but whenever there was an opening for something, I was bumped up because I showed them I was worth more because I didn't want to make crappy money forever. You can move up at retailers and fast food if you just put a little effort in your job. Take pride in what you do even if it's a shitty minimum wage job.
Now that the minimum wage is going up, of course everyone else's wage is going to have to go up, including mine.
Odd how often it's government who hires these people.Foxconn is probably the "best" in China because it has Apple and their image machine kicking them in the ass. How bad are the other ones that don't get so much attention...

find another place of employment that is willing to pay you more for your accumulated experience and skills.

They do? Do you have any examples?
You get a second job, you work on weekends. You don't buy an Xbox or PS4, you don't get a cell phone plan from Verizon that includes data, you don't pay for cable or internet for $80 a month. You work.
If housing/utilities/tuition etc have remained flat since the last minimum wage increase, then there is no reason to increase the minimum wage. :hmm:
Gas needs a hot car engine and some sparks!I can almost, almost understand believing the lie and smashing the windows, but this is more
Back in February, employees at a Burger King in California smashed the windows and the manager slammed his car into the building
You don't deserve $15 flipping burgers. Those types of jobs aren't meant to be permanent jobs.
Here we go.

As for minimum wage... I'm starting to thing it should be weighted based on age and location. If an adult working full time can't afford to put a roof over his head and feed himself and a dependent, in the local real estate market, wages need to go up -I've always thought that.
But the teenagers working at the local sporting goods store on the weekend? They're getting current minimum wage, they're happy about it, and I'm having a hard time being not-okay with that.
Of course, you get what you pay for in terms of customer service skills and whatnot. Damn kids.
So... hooray for Amazon?
