Thats awesome you have a cave to explore. I have done a fair bit of caving myself. I am pissed that the local NSS chapters have gated and locked all caves in almost every state of the mid-atlantic all because of a deadly bat fungus that they blame cavers are transporting from cave to cave.

Hey NuclearNed have you ever thought of pulling all your stories together in one place(blog or single thread here)? I have pretty much enjoyed every single one but I don't feel like searching the forum to find them all. I am sure I have missed some of them.

I've thought about it. I'm very seriously thinking about trying to put together a book.

The cave has 2 entrances. The entrance I don't own is pretty small - it would take a very determined person to get through it. Counting the 2nd entrance, there is probably only about 20 feet of the cave that I don't own. All the rest is mine.

Keep it vertical, would you?! We can ill afford to lose you.

btw-I think I see a dead body petrified into the wall in one of those pics.

I don't know which picture you mean, but there is one room my dad and I call the bone room. Formations in the walls look exactly like bones. I'm not sure that they aren't.

so out of all the "litter" you cleaned out of the cave, how much of it was crusty t-shirts, undies and paper towels? :awe:

That's cool there are some dates from 1860 carved into the cave.

The pictures didn't turn out real well. There is a knob of rock with 3 names and an 1863 date on one side. 2 of the guys returned the next day with a different 3rd guy and signed the other side of the rock. What is really cool is how ornate & fancy the signatures are - they spent a lot of time carving them.

A friend of mine has about a 100 acre plot in Virginia with a cave. There actually is a down side, the local spelunking clubs come and explore it without asking, and his insurance agent said there is a potential liability to him if someone is hurt. He's considered blocking it off but doesn't have the heart to do it.
