What he said.

Oh, ok. There wasn't anything there when I first read the thread.

Yea, umm... that's pretty rough, just like a dog.

that is very wrong. but i don't quite believe that cops would be so dumb to pull such an entrapment scheme. Our governments should spend money on education and poor people, not on making criminals out of you and me.

Here is a funny story of cops pulling over a group of bikers. At least it's a little comical...

There had to be some sort of incident transpire prior to this, for the Police to take this action. There could have been a rash of complaints of bikes passing dangerously in no passing zones.

I hate to be a fuddy-duddy, but they did break the law, although I am the first to admit, that I would have passed as well.

There have been a rash of deaths in Marin, some from bikes passing and getting nailed by oncoming traffic. You ever see those car commericials showing the car on the smooth hilly (not mountainy) roads zipping along? That's Marin. One car company actually paid for part of a roadway through the Marin Headlands to be repaved.

However, there is a famous entrapment case in Ohio, I think, where an unmarked car would tailgate until the car ahead would speed up (over the speed limit). The Supreme Court ruled this entrapment. This sounds similar.

It's not really similar because the cop isn't breaking the law to begin with. The cop is just riding along and then the motorcyclists are breaking the laws all on their own. It's not really entrapment for the same reason. The cops aren't facilitating them breaking the law, they are doing it all on their own. If an old lady was driving along at 10 mph below the speed limit and a motorcycle comes along and passes over double yellow lines and cop see this, they still get a ticket. It's essentially the same thing just without the old lady. Entrapment is a VERY hard thing to prove. The other case you mentioned was more like entrapment and they must've had some hard evidence to get that ruling.

  • "...at about 10 mph under the speed limit..."
Got proof of that? If you got dragged into court for a speeding violation, the first thing out of your mouth would be questioning the accuracy of the radar gun etc.
  • "Entrapment?"
Waaaah! I broke the law and got caught, so it must be somebody else's fault! If a civilian reports somebody speeding, driving erratically or dangerously, the cops just tell you that they have to witness the violation before they can do anything about it. When they do witness the violation, the violator whines about entrapment. Boohoo, pay the fine and shut up.
