I just had the following conversation with a GNC employee over the phone:



GNC E: Hello, this is __, how may I help you?

Me: Do you carry a pure Guarana seed extract containing caffeine and no additional ingredients?

GNC E: Well, Guarana equals caffeine, and we do carry Guarana

Me: Ok, thanks, what are the ingredients in what you have?

Him: Let's see: 250mg Guarana, with 90mg of caffeine. And it looks like we only have 1 left.

Me: Would you mind putting that on hold? I will be coming by tomorrow

Him: Hmm.. well, ok I have 3 so I can probably hold onto one for you

LOL ok; He straight up lied about having only 1 bottle to get me in, and then (for whatever reason) said that he had 3 bottles two seconds later when I asked him to hold onto one (sales ploy gone awry). And before that, he tried to act all authoritative by saying "Well Guarana = caffeine" ... and then two seconds later proved himself mistaken by reading: 250mg Guarana, 90mg caffeine. I found it a curious conversation

well, technically I think there is a difference: guarana extract = caffeine, but when it's just listed as guarana, I think it's not quite the extract.

I've also been told that Guarana Extract is not 100% caffeine, but has energy effects similar to the same mg-for-mg dosage... the difference being 100mg of guarana won't contain 100mg of caffeine, but rather, have maybe 60mg of caffeine but total energy being equivalent to a much smoother 100mg dose (been suggested that guarana has a smoother, less jittery impact).
What the truth is I dunno, can never get straight science in regards to guarana from any source it seems.

I wouldn't say he lied. He said it "looks like" they had 1 but it's entirely possible that he/she/it checked to make sure and actually found 3.
