I've got 2 win98 machines I'm trying to peer to peer with crossover cable.
My host has a generic NIC hooked up to the cable, which works great.
My other NIC in the machine is an Intel 10/100 pro management adapter. This thing does NOT want to pick up the other generic card I have in the other comp. Tcp/ip is bound to the card, I've specified 196.128.0.1 and 255.255.255.0 subnt on the lan nic. Same domain, unique names.
I've let both machines sit for 15 minutes, they never pick ea other up.
I want to share out the cable, I've downloaded winproxy, but can't use it cuz the network is being a pain.
I've swapped pci slots for the intel nic, hasn't helped. I'm thinking this nic has a problem, I was able to set up the lan just fine with both generic cards.
Should I head out to best buy and pick up a netgear for 10 bux? I'm pulling out my hair here. Any suggestions?
thankz,
t
