I normally would just go ahead and GUESS at this and say screw it, but for some reason I have searched the net and my testbook obsessively for hte answer and cant find it. I'm sure that someone here will know the answer right away, and I appreciate the help in advance

___________ are known as option groups, because the user can only select one option from the group.

Its either Drop-down list boxes, Radio Buttons, Check Boxes, or Text boxes.

that's kind of a gay question since drop downs and radio can only have one item selected, but I think they are referring to radio buttons....

You should have been able to scratch the last two with a second's thought.

Are check boxes generally used to select a single item from a group?

Is a text box (in any half-decent user interface) ever used to "select" a single item from a group? Would typing a response generally be considered "selecting" it at all?

Also if the actual question wording indicated multiple drop-down lists then you are obviously selecting mutliple items.

Radio buttons are option buttons in Visual Basic.

Radio buttons are the round ones like dials on a radio. That's my theory anyway.

It'd probably help if the OP told us what language this is for. He refers to option/radio buttons as "radio buttons" though, so I assumed HTML.

The answer is radio buttons. Although drop-down lists usually only allow one option to be selected, they aren't normally contained within any kind of groupings. However, radio buttons are. Check boxes, on the other hand, although normally contained within groups, usually allow for more than one slection within the group.

Well here's the thing... there are dropdown lists and there are listboxes. I've never heard of a dropdown listbox. A dropdown list allows you to select one option from a group. A listbox allows you to select multiple options from a group. Since radio buttons answer the question, I'm going to assume the prof was referring to a listbox with the first option. I'm going with radio buttons.

Edit: re-read the question, dropdown lists are never referrted to as option groups, it's definitely radio buttons.

Thanks everyone.

I was leaning toward radio buttons after etrying to find the answer on my own, but didn't want to bias the conversation from the beginning. Now you see why I struggled with this one, its totally a bogus question.

Did you read my post from above? In HTML, drop-down lists have an "option group" tag called <optgroup>.
