Oh they still are, we just pretend they are not, see, their capitalism stretches as far as government income which is then distributed.

Now, explain communism.

Ever since the US companies got started on the expoert import industry we have started to pretend that they are not a commie nation but they most definently are.

Slavery = Chinese work camps, sweatshops, prison camps, illegal organ harvesting, ignoring minimum standards for products etc..

Don't forget melamine in the food and lead on the toys! All hail the PRC for the new global economy! Celebrate! -- lets dance!

Yeah no shit, their government actually still allows companies to dump chemicals right into their water supply and then when it hits the company, they tell them sternly to not perhaps do it... or at least not so much.

This doesn't see like a standard diplomatic courtesy as some seem to be suggesting. According the OP's original article this is a celebration of the 60th anniversary of founding of the People's Republic of China. Why the fuck the White House is celebrating the founding of the Communist People's Republic of China is beyond comprehension. Instead of holding the ceremony on the White House lawn, or across the street, or wherever the fuck it's going to be held, maybe the Chicoms should hold the ceremony in the middle of the the Vietnam memorial and really rub it in good.

This isn't the 50s you know. Who cares if China is communist? That's their business. The average persons standard of living has actually increased since the communist takeover. Communism seems to work for them.

Yeah, but when you raise their flag to celebrate founding of their communist regime in your White house, you are pretty much saying communist work for you too.

And next time, something like Tiananmen square incident happens, or riots in Tibet, Xinjiang, you are pretty much saying your country stands firm with the PRC.

Lead arsenic and fluoride are the new Vitamin C! I'm sure the FDA will approve them shortly. Ohh wait fluoride is already nutritious and good for us. Thank goodness the FDA and PRC are looking out for our health. Celebrate!

I credit this forum for making me, many years ago, think about what kind of emotional reaction I should have about the raising and carrying around of a national flag.

My revised, hopefully evolved thoughts: It's a piece of cloth. Who cares.

No one is denying China is a shithole. However it is less of a shithole than it was 20 years ago for the average worker. Of course the conditions are still very poor compared to what we are used to.

I personally don't believe that becoming a democracy would change any of the problems you listed. It hasn't for India.

Yeah I know. It's da New World Order.

Should we buddy up with Cuba too? How bout we invite Castro on the White House lawn and celebrate Cuba for wonderful country it is. :disgust: Perhaps a more appropriate place would be to hold the ceremony in Miami then dedicate a bronze a statue of Castro and stick it on Miami beach?

Maybe the entire US Congress should head over to China and celebrate the 4th of July in Red Square? Think China will go for it? After all it would only be fair in the "new global village".

Talk about an overreaction. It's customary to raise a flag of a visiting nation. i'm sure the Chinese do the same when a high ranking US politician visits.

Many of you have pointed to the fact that this same action has been taken in the past when high-ranking foreign officials visit the WH. Can someone please tell us which "high ranking" Chinese official is visiting the WH on that day?

As far as I can tell, this is simply a celebration/ceremony of some sort being thrown by a pro-China group on the back lawn of the WH; so I'd like to know who amongst them justifies for this exceptional diplomatic courtesy.

If we approached other nations and asked them to raise our flag above their centers of power on the 4th of July while we simply celebrate the day on their back lawn, would they do so? Is that a common practice?

Hardly, Skins' patriotism is admiral, even if I disagree with him over the significance of this issue. He is in the military fighting for America and without people like him, the US flag would not even be flying over US soil.
