We went to my niece's birthday party on Satuday and ended up at my brother's house afterwards. My niece got a Wii from Santa and the kids ended up playing Wii Sports after about 30 minutes when my niece told the her two cousins that she had a Wii.

My son had a blast with the controllers and didn't want to leave because he was having so much fun.

Flash forward to Sunday and my wife and the kids are at her Aunt's house where her cousin got a Wii for Christmas. I wasn't there but I'm assuming that there was some playing of the Wii going on.

Flash forward to last night. I take my kids out to the park, we come home and my son is sitting at the dinner table and blurts out that he wants a Wii. I tell him that IF he wants a Wii, he needs to be a really excellent boy, do what his parents tell him, not complain, do good in school, etc etc and maybe he'll get one for his birthday or Christmas. We already have two 360s and two DSs so he's going to have to really earn it.

He of course complains and my wife gives me a dirty look because she doesn't want another console in the house. But, it is clear that he is now snagged in the Wii's web. Now to see if this is something permanent or transitory wishing.

This one was going down in flames-DAPUNISHER

I got the first for free at launch and got the second for free when the PS3 launched so my wife would stop hogging my 360. Also makes for nice media extenders in our two main viewing rooms. I've also got XBMC installed on an original Xbox hooked up in our bedroom.

If my credit card showed the same amount of available money or more after all of those transactions, then yes, they were free.

I'm happy that you're one of the fuckers who buy the systems up so nobody who actually wants one can buy it, then sell it for 5x markup over retail.

People like you don't even deserve to have one at all.

Well, as long as you're happy. btw, I never went over 2x markup. I was lucky to make 1.5x markup on the PS3s

No, you made a profit and then used the money to buy something. The 360s weren't free... you paid for them. If I take $3000 from my weekly pay check and use it to buy a plasma... the plasma isn't free... even if my account balance is the same as it was the day before...

Free is when someone gives you something for nothing in return...

Believe it or not... you could have used the money that you made from selling the consoles to buy something other than a 360... you could have bought a bunch of games, controllers, a wii, etc...

In any case, I'm at a loss as to why your wife wouldn't want another console in the house if she was hogging your 360 to begin with (the reason you gave for purchasing another one). However, making your kid earn it seems like a noble idea... good choice

Worst. Analogy. Ever.

Free is when someone gives you something for nothing in return...

Free is also when you steal stuff.

Said "bunch of games", "controllers", and "a wii" would've all been free as well, under the same system.

Math follows! Warning! Queasy has $3k in his bank account. He uses $2k of it buy 8 Wii's. He sells 7 of those Wii's at 1.5x the price he paid, then goes and buys an 80GB PS3 and two $60 games. By the time this is done, he has $3005 in his bank account. He got the Wii, PS3, and 2 games for FREE! See how simple that is? He has two new consoles and is out no money, therefore they are free to him.

(Disclaimer: No taxes were added, and gasoline and time were not considered. No animals were harmed during this math problem.)

If I go to work, earn $1000 and buy something, is that something "free"?

What if Queasy's job is ebay reselling, does that make the stuff he buys, "free"?

He could have easily taken the money he earned and saved it, invested it, bought food or gas, but he chose to buy a console. Thus the console took the place of something else, it wasn't "free".

lmao... you worked for them. That's not free. Some people make their living trading like that. Do they get money for free?

Should have sold some Wii's over the first 2 weeks in December. Heard that many were making a killing.

I stood in line starting at 5:30 AM on 12/17 when Target got their big shipment in. I was doing it for my niece though. My brother was standing in line for her too and just barely got one (he was one of the last couple in line at his Target). So, I sold the one I got (and not at a 2x markup). Paid for some Christmas gifts for my kids.

Ugh, people who buy and then sell consoles for a profit disgust me for some inexplicable reason, even though the process is totally valid.

*shrug*

How can you say something is free but then say time was not considered? Time is money. He worked for the items, therefor they were not free. But you could say they "paid for themselves" which would have made a lot more sense given the scenario.

I think some people (and myself included) consider something free only when a transaction does not take place for the item itself. Since he still paid for it (even though it was using a surplus that he made from selling items at a higher price), they don't (and I don't) consider it free. Like Buy One Get One Free, you buy one... you pay for one... you get one for free. You don't pay for the second one (although some consider it halved).

Although I'm not one to really care about arguing over semantics .
