how did you score two FREE 360's?

Bought 5 360s at launch. Sold 4 which paid for one.

Bought 5 PS3s at launch. Sold all 5 which paid for the other.

In other words, they weren't free.

If my credit card showed the same amount of available money or more after all of those transactions, then yes, they were free.

If you think about it, you could have sold your 5th Xbox for $100 profit, so you actually spent $500 on your first Xbox, which is pretty far from free.

My 2 cents, if you paid for the console then it wasn't free. By that logic everything I buy during the week is free once my pay check it deposited.

Back on topic, well the old topic at least. Glad you hear you kid enjoyed the Wii, you should buy him one. No kid should grow up without Mario, Link and Kirby.

Sorry, but I don't consider going to different stores to pick up different pre-orders (some of which I didn't even pick up) and standing in line for a couple of hours in the morning 'work'.

Doing construction on an oil refinery is work.
Refereeing ball games is work.
Collecting garbage is work.
Managing people is work.
Writing code all day is work.
Writing test plans and testing applications all day is work.
Writing functional documents and meeting with clients all day is work.
Running a cash register in a store is work.
Stocking a grocery store is work.
Building a house is work.

Shopping? Not work.

That's what the DSs are for. I got two when they were on sale at Brandsmart for ~$80 so we could play Mario Kart and other games together when he was having a bad time with his asthma.

Does anyone in this thread really think that shops are selling Wii's as a public service? Well here's the news, they make a profit too. End of.

EVERYTHING I HAVE IS FREE!!

WHEN I FIRST OPENED MY BANK ACCOUNT IT WAS AT $0.

SINCE THEN IT HAS NEVER BEEN AT $0.

THEREFORE EVERYTHING I OWN HAS BEEN FREE!

What if someone pays me to shop for them? I'm quite sure that'd be considered work .

It also meets the definition of work as "labor" in this case the labor of finding all of these things, waiting in line and then "reaping the benefits."

Guys, you're missing the fact that the OP has a wife. As far as a wife is concerned, the consoles were free if they weren't bought with regular income but with income the OP came up with by doing something on the side.

Personally I think the console makers should just let the stores sell them for whatever they want. If the price is going to get jacked up, it might as well be the company that has assumed the risk of spending millions of dollars to open and run a retail store.

Not to mention listing and selling them on eBay. Not trying to equate that with a day in the coal mines, but something was exchanged for the consoles, in this case time and effort. It boils down to time and effort in most cases anyway, since someone paying for one the regular way most likely earned that money at some sort of job... ;P

Winnar. That's pretty much the only way I can justify getting consoles with the wife. Deals (the 2nd 360 was bought from Microcenter for $200 AR with the PS3 money) and extra money.

Opportunity costs!

Don't any of you remember your intro micro?! Shameful!

Anyway, you can't really say it was free, since you chose to forgo alternative uses of your time in selling and buying consoles to pay for the one you kept. You could figure out if you ended up making an economic profit if you could put a price on the time you spent reselling.

But you could make an argument that doing what you did was utility-maximizing behavior if you couldn't have more efficiently spent the time toward the same end. Heck, maybe you even derive utility from the process of selling and buying the consoles - I know I do. I find that sort of thing pretty fun. Much preferable to going to work and making the money that way!

Now I've done my part to perpetuate the douchebaggery - Im satisfied

THE XBOX 360S WEREN'T FREE!

The price was paid by the sobbing little kids that showed up with their allowance money at Toys R Us after big, bad Queasy cleared out their stash of Wiis.

I gave them a pat on the head while I put on my top hat, lit my cigar, and drove my pallet full of Wiis past them.
