From 60hz to 120hz!

Basically, installed a bridge rectifier in a gang box with plugs. Wiring was kinda tight to work with so really needed to use a 2 gang box which worked out nicely as I made 1 side AC and the other side DC. I tested it in the bathroom to ensure a ground fault on the DC side will trip a GFCI and it does. The neutral prong is negative and the hot prong is hot. This did not really matter much but figured that's the most logical way to go.

The lights are not that much brighter, but the flicker is practically gone.

Further set is on AC the closer one is on DC

Now I need to get a plate for it. Don't really want the cat playing in there.

Yeah I will need to do a good burn in test before I trust this thing unattended. I think it's going to be fine though, whole thing is built to be rated for 15 amps, I'll barely be drawing an amp from it.

Be careful if they burn... I heard that Christmas lights are among the worst in terms of lead content in the PVC.

So this is all about eliminating flicker?

My power at 60hz doesn't have obvious flicker. I don't even think it would show up in video as having flicker. What's the overall goal of going to 120hz? Just seems like a lot of work for little payout.

yeah at 60hz it's very noticable, because they're only on for maybe 1/4th of that time. Would need a high speed camera to know for sure but I would imagine that a good portion of the wave as it's going up and down they're off as the voltage is lower than what it takes to activate. So by flipping the negative wave to positive you're adding a secondary pulse in an instance where they'd be all dark.

Even at 120hz I can slightly see a flicker if I turn my head really fast while moving my eyes in that direction but for all intents and purposes it's not really a bother.

I never thought of doing SLI Christmas trees, going to have to try that. I can replace the plastic balls with the glass ones for the PhysX effects when they fall though.

That bumps the voltage to 170 as the peak voltage is actually 170, and then I'd have to add resistors, and each set may require different ones. This box is meant to be universal so it works with any set. I thought of it but decided against it just to keep things simple.

Is this some kind of parody thread?

I must have missed something.

Those are the ones I use outside, but I got the LED ones for free for the tree so figured why not.

It's too bad they don't make ultra bright LED ones that have bridge and capacitor built in though.

Why did that giant photo above not get resized? How did they bypass the board code to resize it? Weird.

See what happens when you overclock, stuff gets broke.

Crossfire baby! It scales up. Not like that SLI shit right above mine. Can't even tell.

Lol! I spy tamper resistant receptacles. I despise those TR outlets but that is all that is available at the box big home centers now
I was greedy when Home Depot was getting rid of the non TR receptacles I bought the rest of the stock of the Leviton 5252's (They were $2 a piece not the normal $5.60) I bought all 20 of them (All that was left) I should be set for awhile with replacement receptacles. Especially now that I bought a quality receptacle (Those 5252's can last a lifetime in a home setting)
