Those blank checks you get from my bank/CC co. accounts

I have never been tempted to use them. I suppose the usefulness of them is an appropriate thing to address here. Do you find them useful?

The reason I posted this is that I always look at those and wonder how to dispose of them. Seems to me that just tossing them in my paper waste to put out in the recycling containers I move to my curb weekly could be a risk, so I always shred them. Is that what you do?

I always shred mine. I don't need random credit card checks floating around in the trash.

Shredding them is probably best...even if someone is dumb enough to cash one, the banks/CC Companies should be able to follow the money trail to see where the $$ went but definitely not worth the hassle...

Yeah I hate those things. They get shredded with the rest of confidential/sensitive stuff I receive in the mail.

They're worrisome when you know people are cruising mailboxes. We have a yellow flag that pops up on the mailbox so we can save ourselves a trip out to the road, especially if it's raining, only to find that there is no mail. That flag will be up some days twice or three times. Once is the actual mail being delivered of course, the others are caused by people cruising for mail that they can use for their own purposes.

The mailbox door has a pretty stiff latch on it. There is no way that flag is popping up on its own. Once, just once, I saw a car pulling away. I just happened to be in the right place in the house at the right time.

I shred them, and would love to know if anybody knows how to stop them from coming. I can't believe the things that still get mailed today, especially something so sensitive.

I don't have a shredder. I do have a torch, and a rusty old grill (I have a newer grill I use for actual cooking).

If you're talking about those balance transfer checks you get from credit card issuers, most will honor your request to stop sending them.

I stopped getting these years ago. I think if you've been with the same card company for a while and you don't use them, they get the message. But as someone suggested, calling and telling them to stop is also an option.

You need something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Mail-Chime-MAIL-1200-Wireless-System/dp/B00103FDDU

I think there are also ones that have a portable receiver so that would probably be even better since the alarm on this one is pretty weak. You really need to be w/in 20-30 feet of it if there is any background noise like an a/c or the television.

Yep pretty much the only way to be sure.... other than using lighter fluid and a match in your bbq grill.

No I'm not a pyro. Stop looking at me like that....

Time for some hidden cameras.

I had someone steal one of those from my mailbox and try to cash the check. My bank called while he was trying to cash the check, but by the time they called me and verified I was the account owner and hadn't written the check he got nervous and ran away. He tried to cash another check from my account a few days later and they arrested him then. I had to testify at a preliminary hearing, but I assume they reached a plea deal because they never contacted me about a trial.

I cut them in half and then throw them away. I don't need an invitation to go deeper into debt.

Yes as long as you know you plan to pay it all off before the promotion is over. We are selling our house and used one ($5000) to carpet/paint/etc before listing. The fee was 2% or $100. When the house is sold going to pay it off in full. For $100 it's a pretty cheap short term loan...
