Don't we auto-ban people who use the "Online Sun" as their news source?

And even if this is true, it took place on a small island in the Indian Ocean, not in France.

Or is it "Idiots bite on dog bait story."

No rudeness intended.. do you think the story is false?

I know as much or less than you and I don't see how I could consider your question rude, but it doesn't pass my smell test. Those are not the hands of any fisherman I have ever seen and the expression on the dog and of the entire scene look to me more like an eye exam from a vet. And the placement and size of the hook and the lack of barbs and the type of hook don't look right at all for the bait. My guess is that somebody has taken great delight in pushing people's buttons. I also hope I am right cause my dog is laying right here on the floor.

The story actually seems to be true. It was all over the papers here last week.
That picture was apparently taken in 2003 and back then a man on Réunion was sentenced to 3 months in jail (suspenden sentence).
Apparantly a local newspaper (Clicanoo) recently ran a story showing that this method is still used.

Of course that does not mean that the picture has not been photoshoped.

This is sadly not unheard of, when I was in fl I read warnings in the paper that if you had free puppies or kittens you should be carefulof people wanting more then 1 pet, they may be using them for shark/gatorbait so to be careful.

I never believed someone would do something like this until we had a redneck neighbor who used to airboat in the swamps and bragged to me of using kittens for gatorbait...ugh.

I posted this last night over in OT.

But the more I look at that picture the more I'm doubting it.

A. It looks photochopped. The left tine looks like it's floating on the dog's snout. There is no obvious damage to the dog's snout.
B. There are no barbs on the hooks. If you're fishing for sharks you'd damn well better have a barb on your hook.
C. This is happening on some Indonesian island but the person in the picture is as white as a ghost. Even if you take great care and wear 30SPF all the time, in that climate and with that kind of sun you will get some color no matter what.

The story might be true. And if it is it's disgusting. But I'm pretty sure the photo is a fake.

Watch this video, Mr Sherlock Holmes, and tell us if you still think the photograph is a fake.

yeah, it looks like someone has actually been fishing for dogs on that pic, not using them as bait!

About the dogs - it's OK if they want to use chichiuauas
Or French poodles.

Bingo. It is French-controlled. It's like if some odd practice took place in Guam and people started saying "look at those Americans." The ethnic hatred is totally misplaced. The article lacks any real detail and doesn't even indicate that French people are doing this.

Snopes has the story.

The photo of the dog is suspicious to me because the hooks appear to only be through the soft upper lip area. That would just pull right out. I don't think putting the hooks there would work too well.

I haven't seen the video due to being on dialup, so I realize the video could well refute my assertion about the hook pulling out too easily.
