Those of you who bought an iPhone

So it's been a week since the phone came out, and so far I'm loving mine.

If you've purchased an iPhone, whether you've returned yours or not, what do you think so far? Is it better than you expected? worse?

I am more than happy with my iPhone, I think it was worth every penny I paid for it. The only real complaint I have is EDGE and that isn't apple's fault per se, it's AT&T's but even there, it is just as fast as my Treo 700P was on Verizon EVDO and that was only loading mobile versions of websites, so I can't complain. Call quality is about what I expect from a smartphone, again not worse than my old Treo.

Everything about the iPhone is terrific!

The only crappy part about it is AT&T. I lose service ALOT in my house.

And when I do have 3-4 bars in my home, when I make a call, it instantly drops to zero bars and the Call Fails.

That only happens in my house though, I hate it with a passion. I miss 20 calls a day because of it.

I love mine. I get a better signal in many places than I did with Verizon, all of my calls sound clear, no complaints from the people I call, the screen is absolutely incredible, easily the best screen on any hand held device I've seen.

The touch interface is fantastic, and it really is the best iPod they've ever made. With a screen res of 480x320 at 160dpi, anime episodes look fantastic even at 50% of their divx quality and down from 190mb to 89mb file size in h264 .mp4 format, and of course I can't go back to the click wheel after having coverflow and being able to flick and drag through my music list and jump to a particular letter in a song, artist or album list by pressing it on the right side of the screen. Infinitely better than the clumsy search function in the 5g and 5.5g ipod video units, and not having to back all the way out to the settings menu to turn on repeat for a song or a playlist is fantastic. In vertical view, just tap the album cover once and you'll see the off/repeat all/repeat 1 icon next to the track position slider.

I have 846 songs and 25 videos (30 minute anime episodes) on the iPhone (8Gb) and I've got around 463mb left, so it is enough to fit an entire season worth on it at good quality and more songs than I can listen to at any given time.

Maps is one of my favorite applications, especially in that it gives you the phone number of the places that pop up in a search and you can call it right from the maps screen, which is extremely handy when you forget a phone number for a restaurant or are out driving and want to make sure someplace is open and don't want to stop to rifle through a phonebook.

Having youtube on the phone is great, especially if you happen to be talking to someone about a funny video you saw on Youtube, instead of telling them you'll send them a link to it later, you can show it to them on the spot, and quickly e-mail it to them afterwards using the e-mail icon in the youtube app so that they can share with their friends.

Safari is great, though right now has a few minor stability problems, particularly when you're playing music while surfing.. I expect that apple will get it fixed in an update soon, though.

I really love this thing

i dont think anyone questions the quality or design/function of the iphones, the question should really be- was it worth the $600?!!! you can buy cars that get you places with that kind of money...

$300 iPod + $300 Smartphone = $600 iPod. Simple math. Whether or not it's worth it is completely up to you. Personally I think it's worth the price of admission. It's so simple to use and it effortlessly syncs with Macs (Calendar, Music, Contacts, etc.). The ease of use is the real key to what makes the iPhone unique. Can't wait till I get my hands on one!

Well, after a week with my 8GB iPhone, I have decided to return it. I loved the interface, and the things it does well are without parallel. However, my main gripes:

Inability to send SMS messages to more than one recipient at a time
No ability to cut/copy/paste text
No MMS
Headphone jack ridiculousness
No stereo bluetooth
EDGE-only (thought this wasn't so bad... just wish it was 3G)

make the $600 this phone costs entirely too expensive. I might come back with iPhone 2.0 (assuming it takes care of the major problems), however this first installment is over for me. I really wanted to love and keep my iPhone, but the negatives are too glaring for me to keep it.

I'm loving mine, just on a hour long drive with the family and any topic that came up, i can launch safari and find the answer. Is it completely necessary? no, but to be able to immediately find whatever you want whenever you want is a convenience that is worth it to me. also, I tend to misplace my ipod a lot because i don't use it all the time, now thats not a problem anymore cuz I always have my cell phone with me and now that means i also have my ipod with me. its awesome.

MazerRackham sounds like me with my recent Ocean return (though the item specifics are different). The iPhone looks incredibly georgeous, and despite some of it's technical shortfalls, it's looks atop of what it can do make it a worthy buy to me. But I'm looking to spend half that $599 price tag...so 24 months from now, here's to Apple swaying me their way with a new gadget!

Well I won't pay more than $200 for a DAP and $100 for a phone, so call me when they hit $300.

You may want to double check your math. 8gb Nano is $249.00 and iPhone is not a smartphone by any stretch of imagination.

Simply Apple wants fast return on investment in R&D. I believe a new version of iPhone will be available in 6 months which will cost $400 however without docking or something like that.
I hope cut&paste can be solved by software update. Did somebody consider Neo 1973 It has better screen, however no WiFi

I'm excited to see what OpenMoko will be doing down the line - an open-source phone is super cool!

I wish there was a way to make the alerts for new emails, incoming SMS, etc. louder or to change them to something else. It's near impossible to hear them unless the phone is in your hand. The lack of a task/to-do list is a bummer also.

So far the low noise issue is the #1 complaint I've heard from people.

I've heard that complaint too and it hasn't really been that bad. I always hear my ringer in my house, though the SMS sound definitely isn't as loud. When it's in my pocket the vibration has been very good, much better than my Nokia. And when talking on the phone, it depends. I've had good and bad but yesterday, I talked to someone in an Apple store on my iPhone and it was loud/packed and I could hear them fine.
