Those running 7 or 8: do you have updates turned off?

The new Win 10 cumulative update model now leaves me a bit apprehensive.I don't trust MS ever since they decided to roll out updates without the ability to select each update for us 7 and 8 users. So who here has updates disabled? I used to get my updates via Autopatcher, but that is now almost worthless to use since it gives you the same roll-up in one file.

I sort of do. I set it to "Notify me of the updates" but allows me to manually pick and choose. I always wait for the updates to be "out there" for a while as at one point an update bricked my system and I ended up reinstalled everything

I use Win7SP1 without any MS updates (last clean install about 2 years ago). My moto in this regard is: don't fix if ain't broken and don't update for sake of being updated. Btw. thinking about the way MS "promoted" Win10, I'm happy with my decision. Anyway, my PC just works -and that's all I need.
In next months I plan to change mo-bo/CPU/etc., which probably won't be fully supported in Win7.. so, I'll be forced to switch to Win10. It's about time, I think

Generally speaking I advocate having automatic updates enabled which works fine on my main PC (a Win7 quad-core desktop), but my C2D laptop is presenting me with a problem: I only use it when I need to, which isn't that often. That means that WU takes longer to process updates, saturating a core the whole way. I recently tried leaving it constantly running for several hours but it didn't pick up any new updates, and essentially disabling one core on an older dual-core CPU isn't a good thing.

To use it at full speed I ended up disabling the WU service for the time being, but I would very much like to get back to having WU work properly on it. I don't think Win10 is an option as the laptop has Intel series 4 graphics and the Win81 driver didn't work too well with it (graphics corruptions when typing - not serious ones, but off-putting. No newer drivers available). It's running Win7 64 atm, up-to-date as of a few months ago.

I have it set to notify me of any updates. Now that everything is rolled up I'm just installing whatever has security updates.

no every comp I have 7 8 or 10 all have updates on because I don't own a tinfoil hat

The worst of it is a fresh install of Win 7 SP1. I've seen it go forward both ways: downloading the 250+ updates from MS and waiting all day as you install them in lumps and chunks; or the speedier way of updating WU itself, then adding the 2016 summer roll-ups. I think there were actually two of them.

I could really almost see the wisdom of choosing some point where you don't want ANY MORE updates, and you would then disable the WU service to live with the constant "warning" messages in the Action Center.

I just insist on reviewing the incoming updates and installing them or excluding them as I see fit.

I did for quite awhile, but have now turned automatic update back on.

I have them set to notify me when they are available. Then I look at the list and decide which to allow. So far I've not had a problem with rollups, but if I do, I can always revert.
