Anybody having major driver-related issues? Performance? Compatibility? Gripes?

Still using XP and Ubuntu here. I wish software developers/game developers would start making their software naively compatible with Linux. I wonder if that will ever happen?
I would love to be able to just have an Unbuntu machine with no need for a windows dual boot.

Yeah it would be nice to have more than one choice for gaming (among other things). But since must games are based on direct x. I think developers have alot of time invested in direct x.

win 7 is great. No issues for me, better than xp and vista for me.

Running 64-bit ultimate for over a month at home. The biggest issue I had was printing. My old HP LaserJet 1000 didn't have 64-bit drivers period. No matter what I did it wouldn't print so I eventually bought a new printer. I had the LaserJet for around 8 years so I cannot complain much. This is HP fault because they never did 64-bit drivers for the HP 1000 not MS fault. Even when I tried different HP printers it wouldn't work.

I've been running 64-bit Professional for probably more than a month now, and I love it. Thought I had an issue when I changed my motherboard, so I did a clean install. Turns out it was my printer's card reader malfunctioning making things go screwy, so I just leave it unplugged unless I need to print now.

Loving Windows 7, no question.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Upgraded from Vista x64 to Win 7 Pro x64.

My Vista install was solid, and this seems just as good. Windows 7 has the advantage of basically being a polished version of Vista. Most of the kinks got worked out in Vista, so it was a good base to work from.

Zero issues so far. And the interface kicks ass. Using XP at work makes me sad now.

Loving my XP. I see no reason to switch. Is 7 faster or does it have any extra apps that XP doesn't? Does it take advantage of 64 bit processing better?

For me the switch from Office 03 to 07 was a waste of money. The interface was made more complex in the name of simplicity.

I am running Windows 7 and find it an excellent upgrade from Win XP. You can disable Aero and it looks just like an improved Windows XP with better gfx.

I've got Aero enabled but for some users it might be something of a performance hog. Aero looks very nice and the gadgets are cool too. Microsoft has got everything right this time and Windows 7 is not a disaster like the Vista release was. I've tested Windows 7 with most of my software and have not had any problems at all which is impressive.

Running win7 pro on system in sig alot better than vista ran.

My only issue is returning from sleep....BSOD

Just gotta figure it out or just use hibernation instead.

I got Win7-Pro-64 and have no issues to far. Before I installed it yesterday I made sure to download the latest Win7 drivers for my hardware though. I was able to find new drivers for all of my hardware.

Only driver related issue so far was my linksys wireless adapter. Apparently Linksys has no Win7 drivers yet.

I got an error message "..Nvidia driver stopped responding" when I first installed the Nvidia 191.07 driver in W7. However, I have not seen that error again. No other issues so far. Installation of W7 went a lot smoother than Vista.

I went from a Vista OEM 32-bit install to a Win 7 64-bit install. Other than having to reinstall the programs I use, I've had no major problems....

So far, so good with Win7 Pro x64. Shook down the sig rig with the RTM, so I had some of the drivers on hand, but so far it either detected everything or I've been able to get x64 drivers. Just have to reinstall stuff and after 4 years on the old setup, it's good to weed out the cruft.

I like it... I can't draw any conclusions about the performance compared to Vista yet as I don't have all my usual software installed. Memory usage does look to be significantly less. The real test will be when I put it on my desktop as my laptop had everything preinstalled with some crapware from Lenovo that isn't on there now that I've done a clean install. I do miss having ThinkVantage functionality already, though. I'm trying to get that reinstalled but it doesn't seem to be cooperating, just gotta find the right version from Lenovo I guess.

Ha. You KNOW you are going to upgrade to W7. Admit it! Somebody who's been running Vista 64 for as long as you have will never be able to resist a shiny new OS.

Hehe we'll see,only time will tell .
So, what's your conclusion?

RebateMonger truefully, well I had nightmare issues with early Win7 Beta builds (probably worst OS I ever used for installation) anyway RC version improved on that and Win7 RTM x64 Ultimate with key is which I'm using at the moment , it has been like my Vista x64 PC ie ...solid no issues,I would say it does feel slightly snappier but I think thats down to maybe the pre-caching of memory(it feels like they tuned this with Win7 and not made it so agressive so HD activity is less,I may be wrong but thats how it feels).
Older hardware its better with then Vista ( however I always thought modern OS should go with modern hardware).

Its Vista with a few tweaks and slightly different layout, anybody that has used Vista for awhile will find it a very easy transition...My opinon is simple , retail/RTM versions are very polished from the early builds of Win7 and they have had Vista as a good template to work with and have done a very good job by building on Vista strengths and improving its weakness with older hardware.

It's be intersting to see what happens next year ( I hear for 2010) with SP3 for Vista and SP1 for Win7 performance wise.

I'll also be testing Kubuntu 9.10 nextweek(using Kubuntu 9.04 on my other PC).

Anybody at Microsoft want to send me Win8 down the road for testing .
