Those who use an optical mouse

I use a mousepad with my MX 700 but I have 3 cats and a dog so their is a lot of animal fur floating around my house. Sometimes a piece of cat/dog hair will get into the groove with the optical sensor and cause erratic motion. Thought my mouse was possessed befor I figured that out.

I use a SpongeBob mouse pad, the surface just makes it easier to glide on.

EDIT: And oh yea, Im using the MX700, never skips a beat, great mouse

I use a Logitech MX900 Bluetooth
And a 3M mouse pad with Gel wrist support. Its to make sure I don't develop too serious ergonomic problems when I do gaming marathon

I think for my mouse, without the pad gives it more movement sensitivity, But I rather not kill my wrist.

I forgot to meantion that,I`m using the Everglide Mouse Skatez tape,real smooth,very nice complement to a good pad and mouse .

yea i used to use everglide too. they just way overcharge for their tape. cshyde has it much cheaper

I use a cheap plastic mousepad with the Western Hemisphere on it. It works well.

yep i like this mousepad. it's soft and has good absorbant qualities kind of like Downy for absorbing all the sweat from my palm after hours of gameplay. now i just need to get a mouse that has those built-in hand cooling fans like this one . Lighted Optical Cool Mouse w/Cooling Fan

Mousepad's make the mouse (physically) move smoother. I had a RatzPad, now use a SteelPad.
