Those with relatively new cars, how long did it take for some jackass to ding it with their door?

Somebody at my work parked their brand new all black BMW M5 in the visitors parking lot. I was admiring the car on my way out to lunch with my coworkers. On the way back to lunch, somebody had already dinged the passenger side door, even chipping the paint. Felt sorry for the owner.

Not a new car, but close. I had my '97 prelude totally resprayed last July, looked awesome. Two months later someone backced into my driver side door..... :|

Fortunately the offender left a note with his correct details and his insurance company repaired my car.

He restored my faith in humanity. There are good people out there.

EDIT: spelling

I bought it used so I wouldn't feel bad as it won't be the first one there.

I always park all the way at the end of the parking lot. Yet somehow there manages to be idiots that decide to park right beside me.

I've had 3 non-moving car accidents. All 3 accidents were cars backing up or backing out behind/beside me. Bastards!

i too park far away... but you know what almost never fails to happen? I come back to find a van, large SUV, or truck parked RIGHT NEXT to me. In a completely open parking lot. I'm sure it's to piss me off too.

2 years now and no dings. But I'm beyond paranoid, I park at the end of the lot where ever I go. I park a block away from my work just so nobody will park next to me.

About two months. I was working in the deli section of a supermarket at the time and parked waaaaaaay out near a couple of deli co-workers. I go out on my break and see the door dinged and a minivan parked next to me. I have the owner paged, and it's someone else who works there.

We go outside and he says, "how do you know it was me?" I told him to open his door. Sure enough, the spot matched perfectly and there is even a little bit of blue paint on the edge of his [chipped to sh!t] driver's door from my body-side molding that he chipped in addition to dinging the door. He agrees to pay for the damage.

I get an estimate, $300. The paint on the bodyside molding was chipped and needed to be repainted, possibly replaced and painted, I forget now. He wants it in writing. I call my sister and she says she'll bring the estimate down. She gets there around 8:45pm and I can't find him, found out he punched out early. He left at 8:30 instead of 10. I go outside around 9:15 or so to leave, and my car is keyed to sh!t. Once down the passenger side and twice down the driver side.

The detective says it looks like it was done with a boxcutter. What a coincidence, the @$$hole who did it works in stock, opening boxes and stocking shelves. He never showed up to work after that day, except to pick up his paycheck. When he did come in, he was staring into the deli department, trying to see where I was, if I was there.

Passenger side - 800x600 - 600x450
Notice that little chip on the BSM on the passenger side? That's what this stupid sh!t was about. I wish I didn't say anything, or at least parked in view of the camera.

This is a woman thing. They have no respect for other people's property. They can't seem to pay attention to their own vehicles.. why anyone else's? My girlfriend does the same thing all the time, and gets very pissed when I tell her to be more careful and to pay more attention.

gf is like that too. she doesn't even look when opening the doors, once a cab nearly friggin peeled the passenger door right off! i swear i almost had the urge boot her ass right into oncoming traffic.

Nothing. If I didn't want to join the NYPD, something definitely would have happened to him and his vehicle. Believe me, I had many offers from friends and even from friends of my sister.

And FYI, that is a Cavalier coupe. He got all 6 side panels; the front and rear quarters and the two doors. I was nowhere near satisfied with the job the body shop did on it, but there was nothing I could do about it because my stepdad picked it up and accepted it without looking it over like I would have :|

I spent more than that, and I drive it like I own it. Though I don't obsess over it.
It's an object that is going to eventually go away.

I really can't believe people will spend the extra effort to park near "higher end" cars or park way far away from every other car just to avoid getting a ding or scratch.

The car is going to fall apart. It seems that people care more about their cars than their own health.

I have no dings, good old plastic panels. The one good thing about my Saturn.

I admit I will open my door right into someone else's door if they are on the line. I make sure I'm in the middle of the spot, the least you can do it make sure you're all the way in yours. So many people park like idiots, just annoying, and that is my revenge against them

Wow, that's awfully nice. Ever consider that they parked so far over because of someone who parked far over on the other side of them? You sound like an asshole.

Not even 2 days after getting my new car....

My wife was talking to DentMasters that same morning since she felt so bad.
