Last year, I had purchased a PC from Cyberpower and have upgraded the memory and video card to these specs.
AMD Athlon X2 4600+
2GB of Corsair XMS2, DDR PC6400
Geforce 8800GTS (320mb)
Gigabyte GA-M55S4-SLI
250GB Western Digital SATA II HDD
500w NZXT PSU
Im looking into doing a new build, this year because I am eligible for the Intel Edge Retail bundle, its basically a bundle for people who work in retail selling and working on PCs. Im getting a Q6700, some sort of media intel board (its micro ATX and does not suit my needs so im scrapping it), and a retail copy of Vista Home premium all for $250.
Ill be carrying over the memory and video card from my old machine into this intel build, here are the specs.
Im looking to do this build for $500-600 dollars with the 250 already included. So figure about $350 for motherboard, HDD, Optical Drive, Power Supply, and Case. Ive been looking at the deals and 20% cash back from using Paypal.
I do have a few questions though.
Im only going to have one HDD and one optical drive, no second video card, and possibly overclocking the CPU to 3Ghz on stock cooling and voltage. Will that PSU be enough?
IDE or SATA optical drive, its going to be a vista based machine. Im just concerned about not being able to load drivers for my drive when I get into the OS.
What do you guys think of the case? Its got stand-offs built in, so I wont have to use any studs or washers to prevent short circuiting the motherboard. Its going to be my first build, I know my way through building a new machine. Ive just never applied the knowledge to do it.
