Thoughts on 2012/2013 Ford Mustang?

I've been looking into some cars lately and the Ford Mustang (V6) has been catching my eye. It seems to be priced well and has good performance to boot. I like the exterior design but the interior is "meh" for me.

What are your thoughts on this car, guys?

I thought I read somewhere that Ford is taking the 2014 Mustang in a completely new direction. Ditching the retro styling cues that mucked the line up for the past decade.

If I were you, I would not want the last production year of the retro styling Ford is finally getting away from.

They are doing a body overhaul for 2014. They are not dropping the retro cues 100% though.

OP, is the V8 way out of your price range?

2015 which will be released in 2014.

Ah, I was a year off. 2015 model year, released in 2014.

Either way, I have a thing against buying late into a model.

1st year: Some kinks.
2nd year: Minor refresh, manufacturing corrections.
3rd year: Bigger refresh, manufacturing corrections, BUY!
4th to 8th year: You drive what looks like a new car.

I hope so! I really like the current styling but I'm not a fan of the interior at all.

I'd love to get the V8 but the price difference here in Canada is staggering. The base model V6 starts off at just over $21,000 while the base model V8 starts off almost $39,000. As much as I'd love to get the V8, I simply can't spend almost twice the amount of money on an engine upgrade, for the most part.

I really like the fact that the V6 can get such good performance numbers. If they keep the performance and price the same but restyle it to look a little more modern, then I will jump on this car in an instant.

Yea, I guess they figured the bump in power also warranted a bump in price.

I'm going to wait and see what kind of discounts Ford is going to have during their "employee pricing" events. They usually knock off a few thousand off the price.

WTF are you guys talking about? The Mustang does look modern/futuristic. Only the general forms are retro, like the grill tilted forward.

I think it looks like any other Mustang: an over-priced, under-engineered money dump.

No thread crapping or trolling. You know better. Keep it up and i'll petition for your removal from the garage. You can troll OT all you want.

It's more so the interior styling. It's quite bland, IMO, especially the steering wheel and gauge cluster.

They are routinely on Sale here for $17 - $19K for the base model so big discounts on the '12s are already here.

GT's are running $6 - 8K off MSRP as well.

0-60 at 5.9 seconds!

They managed 24.2mpg and drove it hard - glowing review!

I think they got that number without the performance package too. The V6 tested with the shorter gearing of the performance package can do 0-60 between 5.0 and 5.5 seconds according to many other reviews.

Yeah. Guess you find a big dealer repair invoice pretty sexy, too. Cuz that's what you'll be looking at a lot when you buy any Ford car.

Haven't had a single problem with my 2003 that wasn't caused by me screwing with things, despite making almost twice the factory power. Unless you count oil and tire changes; 7 quarts synthetic and R comp 315s are expensive but they aren't dealer items :awe:

Oh wait I did a heater core recently... but it was probably engine torque tugging on the hoses or I pulled too hard on the heater hoses while installing a cooling mod on the back of the heads and stressed the barb. Who knows. But even that cost me $90 plus an afternoon, certainly not "big dealer repair invoice".

And that's as 2003. The 2005+ are even better as far as refinement and build quality.

I agree with you on being a money pit, but not for the reason you think

My only gripe, not a fan of the 70s style cluster. But it wouldn't stop me from buying a 2013 GT500.

I have 70k on my Focus, only things changed are brake pads, filters, oil, gas, and tires. Has been insanely dependable, and handily beats the official fuel economy numbers.

Ford today is basically nothing like the Ford of the 80s and 90s. Anyone who can't see that isn't paying attention, or is trolling.

This, before it got taken out by a truck at 110k miles.
