Thoughts on a XFX Double D Radeon HD 7850??

I see the Egg has one on sale and in stock but no one here has commented...

Anyone have any experience with one?

Stay away from double d designs that have a gap in their cooling which leads to soaring temperatures.

Get a dual fan sapphire (OC edition, Toxic, etc.), asus directCU, or msi Twin Frozr or Lightning instead. Possibly other configurations would work such as the well-reviewed HIS IceQ Turbo, but those are the big 3.

I've had a couple of their cards over the years. They worked fine. But I've never had to deal with them as a corporation.

I can't tell if you're intentionally playing dumb or not. No, they are similar designs, different cards. But the point is that XFX's DD design failed with 79xx and there is no reason to trust a company that obviously didn't spend much on engineering their cooling solutions, not when rival companies are making products that cost about the same but perform better (better engineering, better cooling). If you want to throw money at XFX anyway, be my guest. I have owned two XFX cards but after their recent corner-cutting and abandonment of lifetime warranties, I doubt I will buy another XFX card ever again.

It was just the article was on 7950 and not 7850, so I wondered if there might be a difference or if its indicative of what to expect from the different manufacturers.

We have a couple of XFX cards and the one just went through an RMA process and we ended up with a better card.

Some of you guys really know the ins and outs so I like to make sure. I am just lucky to be able to put one together and get it to work!

Ah okay, sorry for that, then, my sarcasm detector is failing today. Point is the same--if you saw how bad their design was at cooling a high end card, why trust them with a lower-end card? It'd be a lot easier to buy a Sapphire with Dual-X fans (their single fan design is mediocre, but their dual fan designs are good), ASUS DirectCU, MSI Lightning (or Twin Frozr), or possibly a HIS IceQ Turbo if you have three slots of space. Any one of those is fine so just get the cheapest one where you live. Amazon, Newegg, NCIX are popular vendors in North America; not sure about elsewhere.

Never dealt with MCI's but they have the ASUS...

However its $280!
