Thoughts on Acer Iconia A500 Screen

I just purchased the A500 this week and have been it using for a few days. While many reviews praise the screen, I find it to be a bit pixelated. This is not due to the grid issue, as I actually cannot notice that when the machine is on, but rather images don't look as sharp as on some of my other devices (including a 5 year old MacBook with the same resolution). The colors also don't seem as vibrant (particularly reds) as I have become accustom to.

I am wondering whether the screens on competing Android devices are significantly better. Reports suggest not (Transformer aside-and even there you have the light bleed deal) but some first-hand experience would be useful.

The device is a great from a functional standpoint, but every time I use it there is something that just seems off with the screen. Anyone else experiencing this?

The issue is that the Acer Iconia A500 has a TN panel, while most of its competitors (Transformer, iPad 2, heck the Nook Color) have IPS screens. I think this reason combined with price is why this device hasn't gotten a lot of traction in the geek community.

the grids of the LCD are noticeable on white backgrounds... and its distracting while browsing the internet

ridiculous when the transformer and nook color have an IPS.

i saw the iconia in best buy last week when i was looking for a transformer...the screen didnt seem bad, but definitely not great.

it also made me realize that i didnt want a 10" tablet right now for reading...it was a little too big to feel comfortable

It's a real head-scratcher. Why go through all the trouble of wrapping all those top-tier components and aluminum around a cheap TN panel? That's definitely NOT the place to cut corners.
