Thoughts on Country Music...

SlitheryDee

I live in Louisiana. When I'm not in class I work at a western store where I get to listen to the local country music station for hours on end. Generally everyone I know in this area likes country music, but I've never been wild about it. Lately I think we'd be doing the world a favor if someone nuked nashville off the face of the earth. I know that there are people from many cultural a geographical area posting on this forum, and I would like the opinions of those who are familiar with country music. Generally, what do you think about it by itself and when compared to other forms of music.

I disagree. Its definetely the worst.

I like the OP's statement, it would have been doing the world a favor if those darn nagged terrorists bombed that there nashville center instead of that thar WTC.

I think there is a reason why only people, in one small part (the south) of one country like this kind of music. You can't find good music in a genre where all of the people creating it are the same. From a personality standpoint all the way to what kind of car they drive (F-150).

Of course thats also the way I feel about rap, they discourage anyone who isn't black from making the music and they wonder why it seems so stagnant and gets downright intollerable to listen to.

you could plug any genre into your post and it would be just as valid.

Ditto.
I hate the sound country music makes in my ears.
It causes headaches.
But I like watching the Shania videos on mute.

It should tell you something when country music is not part of the rest of the music world. There's music television, and there's country music television. There's pop radio and there's country radio. There's music awards and country music awards. There's even american idol and country idol.

The rest of the music world hates country. So do I.

edit: nashville used to be the c&w capital of the country. now, it is the music capital as well as the printing capital. or so i am told by ppl who live there.

Oh really. OK, then since your obviously just naive or not reading my post entirely.

Name another genre, in the entire world, that is supposed to be a popular genre and yet is only made in one part of one country. Lets take rock for instance. Rock is made in every conutry in the world, or at least anyone of them you can name off hand that isn't a 3rd world country.

AC/DC - Australia and was eveident from the sound of the band
Coldplay and countless others - England
Lacuna Coil - Italy

I could go on and on and on forever. With different cultures creating different kinds of Rock, it gives the genre flavor. The 3 bands I listed above all sound completely different and original for their time, thats because of the cultural and ethnic diversity in the song and lyric writing.

Even if there are people somewhere in another country dumb enough to like country music, and try making it themself. They're still using the recipe that makes it so repulsive to 90% of the worlds population.

Rap is the same too, but not near as bad as country. Even stupid English people who try to rap act like they come out of Compton and live the same life the street thugs in the US do. Even in countries like England where guns are outlawed, you have people talking about pulling a 9 and capping fools. HAHhaha the irony in that.

Or lets take Electronica, as a whole or you can narrow it down by genre. Some of the best Techno came out of Germany, of course it was invented there. Then fools started messing with it in other countries and you get the likes of Ritchie Hawtin, aka Plasticman who is 100% American. Its also evident to anyone who knows Techno that Ritchie is the man, and introduced tons of new idea's to the Techno genre. He changed it because he came at it from a different country, with a different ethnic and cultural background. These things inspire new lines of thought.

Country has nothing like that and never will.

Country isn't only made in Nashville. there are canadian country singers, california country singers, texas country singers. Heck, the Van Zandts made a country album.

I agree ... but only if u r limiting definition of Country to just music from nashville and the hicksville ... but if you broaden it to include country FOLK ... then u will find real good examples all over the developed world ... some of the irish country music is the best ...

What I really dislike is all of the whining in so much Country music. It's also becoming a huge trend in the new 'rock' and 'alternative' music on the radio. I simply don't want to listen to people whining through an entire song.
