Thoughts on Moto X4

My wife and I are on Project Fi, and I was contemplating trading in her Nexus 5x for the upcoming Moto X4 - with the preorder bonus credit, we'd see ~160 back from her device, which makes the X4 more palatable.

Does anyone have impressions, especially with the dual camera setup?

I'm in the same boat, curious to hear any thoughts. I don't particularly want to spent a lot on an old pixel, and there's no way I'm spending $900 on the new one without headphone jack!
The X4 does look nice.

What is the dual camera for? Is it wide and normal FOV? Seems bit gimmicky to me, but I have a proper camera for real photography anyway. Can't hurt I guess, but don't quite see much point of wide angle on a phone.

On swappa the 32GB N5X seems to go for $180-200, so getting 160 for trade-in doesn't sound awful.

Unfortunately, at least for me, the moto G5+ can be had used for <$250 (64GB) and have nearly same specs as x4 (same RAM, battery, 630 chip vs 625). With tax and SD card the X4 will be almost twice as much, just to stay in Fi (and keep USB-C). I think I might jump to another prepaid carrier once I need to replace my nexus. Mint Sim is now cheaper than Fi anyway.

it looks OK. I was going to wait it out for one as I am fan of moto and their user experience with the stockish android. I ended up getting a oneplus 5.... why? better specs (processor, ram), dash charging, amoled screen. price difference of only $80... less considering moto would charge me tax.

I bought my wife a g5+ and thats a pretty decent phone. best buy has them for 269 now.

I jumped on board the trade-in wagon; for me, the credit made it worth it. My original Nexus 5x died over the summer suddenly - Google replaced it 8 months out of warranty for free, but I feel like I'm sitting on a ticking time bomb.

I'm happy to move to another mid-range phone. I like my Fi service, but I don't need the fancy and expensive high end devices.

Thank you for the responses. Truth be told, while I have the Pixel, we might jump my wife to the Pixel 2 - we have a new baby girl, and the camera is supposed to be fantastic.

IMO, with kids age 3 and ~1 the phone camera is handy for occasional snaps (mostly outdoors), but often too slow and crappy indoors to be worthwhile anyway. The "best" phone camera is still way worse than a real camera. Need a SLR or mirrorless with decent flash to get good kids photos indoors.

I have a Sony A7II, but my phone will be on me near 24/7 compared to my camera which will not. To me it's important to have a good dedicated camera and a good phone camera, which is a big reason why I ordered a Pixel 2 XL.

sure, all personal preference. But at least IMO the phone camera is only useful for snaps to send to the grandparents anyway, so doens't really matter if it's slightly better. Just estimating numbers; say a "real" camera is 100%, a moto x4 will be maybe 30% of that. Or you can pay 4x as much for a pixel 2 which is 50%.. Still not good for much so why bother? That's my thinking. Outdoors it's small differences, all phones not very sharp but ok. Indoors anything without a bounce flash is unusable anyway (not to mention phones >400 ISO? eww)
