Well, I'm not sure if this has been posted, but I was just reading up on the Shelby 1000. It looks like an impressive car, but $200K is a pretty tough figure to swallow given that it is basically a Mustang. That being said, I think most people interested in this car are more interested in it from a collectors stand point rather than a performance stand point.

Shelby + 950HP + Only 100 Units = 6 Figures, easily. I doubt you can find anything close to that power output within that price range.

I see the value in this car from the collector standpoint. It's kinda sad it doesn't actually have 1000hp, I feel that is cheating. Even if I had the disposable income, I wouldn't buy this personally, but I don't deny these will sell out ASAP.

I have a feeling others will chime in with the "you can buy a normal GT and mod the crap out of it to get 9234294 HP for less than that"

Well it really is just a modded GT500. And I'm sure there are nowhere near $150K in mods in that cars. But given that it is a certified, limited production run Shelby, I can understand the price tag. Like I said, this seems more like a collectors car rather than a performance car. The numbers are big (1000HP!), but good luck launching that thing with those stock tires. Hell, that thing will probably break loose in 4th.

I read the article about it in R&T and they claimed they broke loose in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. They also had to do a lot of chassis strengthening including getting bigger lug bolts because the stock bolts would warp under load.

Yep, they had to strength the chassis because the GT500 frame wasn't designed to take that much power.

But lets be honest, I HIGHLY doubt anyone buying this car will do anything but store it in their garage (like a Jay Leno garage museum). This thing is almost guaranteed to appreciate in value. If I had the money, I'd LOVE to add this to my collection and say that I own the baddest Mustang ever produced. That is, until the Shelby 1500 is released with the modded 5.8L.

Shelby has turned in to Hennessey....

That sums up my thoughts on this vehicle.

You didn't read far enough...

The Shelby1000 will be offered in both street and Shelby 1000 S/C "off-road" track versions. The street legal, pump gas version dyno's out at approximately 950 HP, while the track oriented "S/C" version is rated at over 1,100 HP.

Great thing about this car and probably the saddest is that its probably the finest drivers cars to ever come from ford.

That nobody will ever drive.

It doesn't excite me as much as the $55k 2013 GT500 with 650 hp. A few bolt on and I guarantee over 800 hp.

I understand the limited production, but still the regular GT500 excites me more.

Buy a Shelby sticker for $200k and get a free car, limited time offer for first 100 buyers.

I despise Shelby. When they rebadged the SVT Cobra to a Shelby they threw away one of the core principles of SVT: maximum car for minimum dollar. Now there is too much of the cars retail cost budgeted on stickers and names rather than better parts.

I think there is too much "collecter edition" fever in everything today, cars, video games, limited edition coins and stamps sold on tv, etc. The things from decades ago that are collectable today were not "special collector editions" back then. Making something in quantity with the words "collector edition" is a pretty good way of ensuring it will never have collector value.

It should, because no one buying the Shelby 1000 is going to drive it.

If I had 200k to spend on a stang I'd get a Classic Recreations '67 GT-500CR Venom.

Saw this at the NY Auto Show yesterday. Couldn't really grab a pic with everyone hovering around it though. They had the hood open and it looked pretty clean inside.

Big deal, it's not like they're gonna hand you a cardboard printed version of the car when you buy it.

I was simply pointing out the picture is retouched, you supplied the negative connotation. No reason to get your panties in a bunch.

Now is a great time to be a car guy. Of course some of these cars are insane and 99.999% of us will never get to drive them but eventually these performance improvements will trickle down to mass production cars. We won't see a 1000HP Mustang mass produced but its reasonable to assume some of the advances in chassis design required for this car may make it to production.
