I agree with some of it, but honestly the advertisement thing is a bit of a stretch. Yes... seeing the same ads in different places seems lazy, but is that any different than the real world? They run the same commercials, magazine ads, billboards, etc for months across the entire country.

In China and HK it is usually the same tired letters, over and over in ads.

To me, it feels like a very obviously unfinished game. I don't get the impression that any of this is intentional. Long story short, after a few hours in it's apparent that this is no GTA competitor. It will be yet another 4 hours of playtime before I get fed up game for me...

Finally had a chance to sit down with this game for a couple of hours. So far I'm pretty impressed. Nice world, characters and voice acting. The obvious standout is the combat, which is very reminiscent of Batman AA. The environmental kills are awesome and used much more often than what I was expecting. The car handling is OK, but overall I prefer the handling from GTA IV or even San Andreas. I find the whole loosing mission points for property destruction kind of annoying. I get that they are trying to add depth and challenge to the game but it seems really unnecessary.

Loving the game. Though I wished it had more content for after main storyline. Hoping for better DLC in the next 6 month.

Only problem with the game...hacking cameras.

I really like the combat, I don't know why reviewers compare this to Batman and say "Batman is just better". I mean, this game is more gritty and realistic than Batman for sure. You actually feel as though your punch to the face or bone breaker move is effective. It's not so much pounding practice dummies like in Batman, you actually have to think and guage yourself and react properly.

You do realize that GTA5 is nowhere even remotely close to release right? Just cause they release a few screenshots of the graphics? Common...

How big is the city? Are we talking GTA-sized? More or less detailed?

Hard to say about the size. It's pretty big, but I think there are fewer landmarks. Like in GTA you know how there is always an airport somewhere or maybe an amusement park? Something that makes that area stand out? Not so in Sleeping Dogs. When you go from place to place it's not easy to tell that you are in the other part of the city sometimes. So from that standpoint I will say that GTA is probably bigger in that there are more points of interest even if the land area is similar.

As far as detailed...I don't know if you mean graphically or what. I'd say it's a draw because GTA has a few better touches to the environment. I mentioned landmarks as an example. Also more to do on the side as far as minigames etc. Bowling, Pool, Darts, getting drunk and chased by the cops. Speaking of cops...most of the time you can drive like a maniac and never have a cop try to pull you over. Unless it's part of a mission or you directly attack them I haven't seen a cop come after me. Literally you could run over someone with no consequences except cop level going down a bit. There also seems to be less use of guns in this game, focusing more on hand to hand combat. I kind of enjoy this better than running around with an AK. I feel as if I am in more control of the outcome without 20 people shooting me from all sides.

Having said all that, Sleeping Dogs is much better graphically and the characters are more fleshed out and much more interesting. The characters in GTA are very bland IMO. Typical tough guy. Typical slut girl, typical rich jerk boss guy, typical wuss brother or cousin. In Sleeping Dogs everyone is a little unique and doesn't fit into a mold out of a cheesy mob flick. They feel more like real people through the course of the game.

Why do the cars and motorcycles 'shake' when you go fast? Is this a bug on my system?

It does that on purpose, for "effect". Whether or not it's a good idea is a bit more questionable.

I think it's kinda cool, albeit a little overdone; but I can imagine it annoying some people. Err... scratch that, it annoys a lot of people actually.

I don't really care for that effect either. It's tolerable, but would be better without.

I have tolerated it, but that's only because the rest of the game is fun. I'd really rather that get patched out or an option be added to shut it off asap. It's not even shaky cam, it's Hong Kong earthquake cam.

Just purchased this. Broke my rule of no more PC games until christmas sale. Just looks too intriguing and this is my style of game.

Wonder how a 7770 @ 1200 Core will run this at 1366x768? Guess I'll find out tonight.

Absolutely dig the game, atmosphere is great, and having spent multiple trips in HK, they captured the atmosphere pretty darn well. Multiple recognizable landmarks are in, although I'll agree the number is probably less than GTAIV. Missions are varied and fun, and just when you start getting used to having fun certain ways, they introduce new elements (action hijacking is my favorite thus far). Melee combat is excellent, a step up over Batman IMHO, and I enjoy the (relative) scarcity of weapons.

Main story line is pretty good so far as well, MUCH better than GTAIV in every way (which IMO shined on the side character missions, I really enjoyed the bank heist final mission for Patrick in GTAIV).

1100T with a 1GB 4870.... settings on High at 1080p.

Seems to be in 40s and 50 FPS range most of the time.

Good to see older cards still capable of decent gaming.

I thought "Huh? How could an old 4870 be getting only slightly less framerates than my new 7870?" But then I watched the video, and he is certainly not running the game on high. He has a lot of settings set to "normal", and what makes the biggest difference is he isn't using the HD texture pack. HD textures require a considerably beefier computer.

Indeed, it's nice to see that the game is quite scalable though.

I'm using the xfx black double d radeon 7770 on this game. I got the high res texture pack and run the game on 1920x1080 with details on high and it runs fine. With details on extreme, it becomes a bit of a slideshow.

The farther I go into this game, the more I'm realizing a mouse just doesn't cut it for combat.

Very frustrating.

I pretty much play all these type games (3rd Person, Sports, Racing, etc) with a 360 Controller.

I only use KB/Mouse for FPS.

Oddly enough, I prefer the Controller... so I play FPS online usually on my 360 as I get murdered on PC with it! I do play KB/Mouse on PC online with Blackops though, so I'm not terrible, I just prefer the controller.

Kinda wish PC had a "Controller only" option for Multiplayer games.

You know how we all like to say that KB/M is superior for fps games?

Well, you have to realize that the superiority is not a universal.

You wouldn't try to seriously play a combat flight sim with KB/M would you? Neither would I. Just realize that a well rounded PC has both options, KB/M and controller. There are games suited to both. 3rd person melee combat, or car driving is very much a joypad type game. I don't have a joystick though, because flight sims don't really interest me, though if another tie fighter game came out, I might have to buy one.

Xbox wireless controller for PC FTW

plays great and switches seamlessly between both KB/M mode and controller.
