thoughts on the al2051w acer monitor?

i saw this review, and apparently these have acer crystal brite which is that glossy coat stuff.


i am thinking it could be a good alternative to the nec 20wgmx2 or whatever. its only $319 + $7 shipping and no tax at tiger direct and i'm thinking of getting it..


any thoughts guys?

still havent bought it. really thinking about it.... i have a nec opticlear 1770gx-bk right now ... so i'm trying to figure out what i'd do with my old monitor if i bought the new one.

I think that the LCD is a very good price for a 20" with Opticlear.

I just recently ordered the LCD in my sig, and had it delivered to my work. I tested it out in my office, keeping the clear piece of protective plastic over the screen. A co-worker of mine came in and commented on how amazing the screen looked and how he liked the clear, shiny screen coating. He didn't realize it was just the cheap piece of protective plastic over the screen! However it DID look pretty nice with the piece of clear plastic over the screen, so I keep it on most of the time, and only take it off when there is strong light behind me.

It got me thinking that it would be cool if you could just buy a piece of anti-reflective plastic and stick on your screen, held by static. You could then take it off if glare was bad. However the "opticlear" sheets sell for about $75, so I'm sticking with my poor mans substitute.

The only B&M retailer that I've seen that has it in stock is Staples. They have it on display at the two staples close by and I've seen the monitor in person. At first glance the colors look great. It's a good substitute for the NEC 20WMGX2 because of the glossy screen. I wasn't able to test the monitor further since it was connected to a computer stashed away. If you have a staples nearby, you should go and see it in person to judge for yourself.
