Thoughts on the best Chinese restaurants in NYC

I think I know what you're talking about. It is between Broadway and Amsterdam. There is another one in Spanish Harlem. Apparently, there are a lot of Chinese people in Cuba...

Yeah, but people I've taken there were not impressed. There's another around Fairway on Broadway. Same reaction. While Cuban-Chinese can be a bit of a novelty, the food at these places is just a step up from the typical fast food joints.

Joes crappie soup dumpling is the old standards..

Joe's in the city is much better than Joe's in flushing.. so not all Joes are the same..

I always go to one downstairs. That place has been around forever.

Pretty much. If you only go for A health rated chinese restaurants, you'll never get to the good stuff.

It is straight up impossible to prepare (some) classic asian dishes properly while meeting modern american health requirements.

It is straight up impossible to prepare (some) classic asian dishes properly while meeting modern american health requirements.

Whenever I go there, I'm the only white guy in there; the rest is Asian. When you eat, you need to wipe the crumbs off your table, kick away random food on the floor and swat the flies but its never bothered me and I've never gotten sick. Fried dumplings are one of the best I have ever tried (made with a paper thin skin and not the thick doughy skin found in other chinese restaurants).
