I enjoy mine for the couple games I have. I got The Zombie U bundle that came with the black 32GB system, a Pro Controller, Zimbie U, & a download code for Nintendo Land.
Nintendo land sucks, Zombie U is so so but I also bought Mario and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Mario is well...mario. It's great but it's more of the same. The biggest cool factor for me is to play with a few people and one person takes the gamepad and uses it to add blocks to the game while we are playing. Monster Hunter is a love it or hate it. So far I like it. It's a lot of fun but without going online with it, some of the fun factor of the game is lost. It's repetitive, but if you go online it becomes a great game to get lost with.
Need for speed is pretty unique too. Player 2 can use the gamepad to add or remove traffic or change the weather on you. It's fun to toss a car right in your way and keep you on your toes, or remove it right before you slam into it.
As for the system as a whole, the battery in the controller needs to be bigger. The system doesn't have a whole ton of online content yet. There are some demoes and the like but there is a very small virtual console list that supposedly will grow over time.
So overall I'd recommend one if your interested in either Monster Hunter or have a second player for a couple of the games. I do also like the potential uses for the gamepad screen. Zombie U makes good use of it with your map and inventory for example.
Note: you will likely get a lot of people telling you there's no games and that theirs collects dust. Right now I can see that as being true for some people.
I don't own one and have only played one for about two min but I say wait until later in this year and buy a ps4/720. Let the Wii U suffer the fate it deserves: an early death.

When the ps4 has no games coming out and the wiiu is getting smash bros, new Zelda, 3d Mario etc you will change your tune. 100% guaranteed.
This will happen...the games coming to the ps4 will include a bunch of garbage and a string of months between major releases.
But at least those systems will get better 3rd party support. The WiiU is already suffering the same fate of pervious Nintendo consoles, lack of 3rd party support. Too many announcements of ports not coming to the WiiU.
Also, none of those games you mentioned have any release dates at all. They probably won't be here for a couple years at least. Obviously if they were coming out this year it would have already been announced.
oooooh i did not realize we have psychics on this forum that seem to already know the release dates of unannounced games!
my thoughts on the wii u are that there are no good games out for it now, and i buy systems to play games now not in the future.
I did say that it would not be a wrong point of view to feel this way.
I am only responding to the post about "let Nintendo die, don't ever buy one". That to me is really an unfair judgement at this time. The new Zelda, Mario, smash bros are officially announced. They will come in time and probably one or two of them right when the ps4 and Xbox are at a lull with no games to buy.
I just sold my Wii U yesterday after having it for about 2 months. Regret the purchase and going to think twice about purchasing Nintendo consoles (maybe not handhelds) in the future.
The last line makes it sound like you take it personal that someone wouldn't like a WiiU. I skipped it because I haven't been into Nintendo stuff for a long time. And You'll feel the same way about the PS4 after you play the two or three good launch titles.
Seriously, anyone at all surprised by this hasn't been around the industry long enough.
Whatever, Monster Hunter is actually very good on the WiiU.
