Me and my cousin have been playing every system that has come out.

I think the ps2, gamecube, and xbox are all great.

Load times seem pretty good for xbox.

I bought one for my son for Christmas and he loves it. When I consider that you must play on a TV at 640X480 the graphics appear a little "fuzzy" but nonetheless they are spectacular. The orignal xbox controller is akin to holding a big gerbel but the MAd Catz controller actually feels good.

I hooked it up his stereo and it sounds great. As good as my Kipltch (sp). AS soon as MS comes out with a media cable to connect to a monitor I'll be hooking it up to that.

the DVD quality is good. Not great but good. It certainly keeps the kids from having to watch their programs in the living room.

He likes it and I like it. Halo, Oddworld and NFL 2002 are all excellent games. One last point; getting games to work on the xbox is a non-issue.

I hate when people call the Xbox a mini computer. WTF do you think PS2 is? What do you think Atari was? I paraphrase one game developer when he said, "You could run a spreadsheet program on any console, just thats not what its used for."

So please shut up people with this mini computer crap.

<< Xbox is a low end computer >>

WOW, and it even out performs the HIGHEST end PC. Amazing!
>>

Doh!

Any idea how well the average 1+ GHz PC would perform if the software had direct access to the hardware and there would be almost zero overhead from the OS and other services/programs?

Such a system would blow the XBox out of the water.

"Such a system would blow the XBox out of the water. "

Do you realize that my space portal machine that allows me to transport myself, in mear seconds, to anyplace in the world is faster than your cars or planes??

Ok your comments were straight retarded. KEEP IT IN THE REAL WORLD. Quit this "what if" crap outta this. You can sit around and compair it to some fictional ideal in your head.

The Xbox might be a "low end" computer in terms of "specs", like that really matters, it still blows a PC away on games (graphically). Xbox was created using Top of the line products. Spec for spec against it's own counterparts, it owns the other units. It is NOT supposed to be put up against a computer, but it just so happens that it does rival the top of the line computer also, and all at $299.

You also realize that the GAMECUBE utilizes a PowerPC chip (IBM) and an ATI Graphics card (even a little sticker on the cube). It also has a motherboard and ram, a sound processor. Well i'll be damn!!! That sounds JUST like a computer.

So you see what i mean? All the player haters will knock the Xbox just cause it's made by Microsoft. Doesnt matter how great it is, these losers will find a reason to talk trash about it. It's all about the jealousy. PS2, GameCube, Xbox are all equally great. Live with it, move on, get a life.

yes, yes, you are correct sir.

i think what most people can't fathom is that it uses standard PC parts like an Intel processor, and NVidia GPU, and DDR memory.

my complaints about the xbox
the controller sux.
its too damn big and heavy
i think the exterior design is simply awful...it is one ugly console IMO.

that being said, its not a bad console at all. When the library matures i just may buy one....along with a 3rd party controller that isnt so tankish.

Or a high end console.

Depends how you look at it, just cuz it has the Microsoft name attached doesnt make it any more of a pc than a PS2 with HD & Modem attached.

All consoles so far have been created with custom designed parts, unlike the XBox, which uses only slightly modified standard PC parts.

Aside from the fact that the XBox has some more bandwidth available between the CPU and GPU, I don't see why my comments were 'retarded'.

You state the all consoles are made from specially designed parts... i'm failing to see how a PowerPC chip and/or a ATi (ok ok... ArtX) chip was specially designed. Also... doesnt N64, PS2, and CG use RDRAM... not sure how that is specially designed. Hell Dreamcast uses the Hitachy SH4 CPU... not a specially designed chip if you ask me. Anyway, all consoles are computers... you cant argue w/ that... the fact that XBOX has uses more familiar brands changes nothing.

no... powerpc does not mean it is a commodity part. the GC PPC chip is much more different from a normal Mac than the P3 in the Xbox is. the Xbox chip is a P3 with half the cache. not exactly a major difference there, is it? (as to the technical end, i haven't been able to figure out how they do it - how Intel makes an Xbox processor not be a celeron). I mean - how hard will it be to emulate the Xbox on a PC? or run PC games on an Xbox? they're sooo similar - much less of a distinction that other systems. I am not arguing that this makes the Xbox a crappy console, since it seemed fine for the 30 seconds I watched of whatever the Xbox X-Wing game is.
should I mention that no consumer systems use SH4 processors?

I'm not going to argue about the video chips.

Oh, and at the time the N64 came out, IIRC RDRAM was NOT commonly used in consumer systems.

oh cmon, i never said it was the exact PPC chip... and I know what GC uses and that RDRAM was not commonly used when N64 was out.. i'm just pointing out that this hardware was not designed SPECIFICALLY for the consoles. Sure the P3 is the same but the graphics processor, while similar, is different. I have never said that the xbox does not have anything in common w/ a regular computer, but please dont fool yourself into thinking that only the xbox is a small computer.

Gamecube is a low end Mac. PowerPC 750CXe series, and ATI graphics card

Uhm, no. It's not exactly a G3/G4 which is inside the GC. It's a custom designed PowerPC-based CPU.

<< and ATI graphics card >>

Technically that's incorrect. ATI did not design this GPU. You'll find this GPU, nor the one in the PS2/PSX/N64/SNES/Saturn in any PC. Then look at the XBox and notice a version of the Geforce 3, with a few extra gizmos.

If you try to be witty, at least do some research before you make yourself look like a fool.

LOL I know how you feel!

<< The number of Xbox units sold speak for themselves. >>

Yeah and that Dreamcast you spoke of had a stellar launch too. Over half a million
sold within a week.

About the GC load times, I read that the developer's hardware simulates load times
as incentive to developers to cut down on it since they have to sit through the loading
whenever they need to test a new build. Sounds good to me.

About the Xbox controller isn't big, it's just bulky and chunky. What were they thinking.

im laughing so hard.. this thread is so funny...

im glad everyone knows that consoles are computers... when i said that the Xbox was a low end computer, the emphasis was on low end, not computer... i think everyone knows they are computers...

and if you think an Xbox will outperform a high end computer... your DREAMING...

everyone is talking how the graphics look so great... on a TV!! running that low of a resolution it better be fast as hell.

Heh I've never really been into FF, though, except on the NES and SNES. I'll try to borrow a PS2 from a friend and rent FFX.

if the Xbox could play Everquest, id think it would be worthwhile... but then again it couldnt even handle that game with the new graphics engine... recommended 512mb or higher ram

I wasn't really reffering to your comment, more so to the ones that say "blah, xbox is just a PC"...

Anyway, sure if you get 12" from a TV the graphics look like crap... but if you're @ a decent distance from the TV then they look good.

The only thing that irritates me is how people just bash XBox because MS makes it... thats redicilous (sp?) Now, if on the otherhand, you go out and buy an XBox (or know someone who owns one) and you play it, and yes... play it for more than 5 minutes @ Best Buy, and you still dont like it... then that's a valid complaint. We can argue back and forth all day long about how xbox hardware is similar to PC parts and whether or not GC has a rehashed PowerPC but in the end none of that makes any difference.
