So far the more extreme right wing sites are lapping it up. Posters claiming one story in the Washington Post about police investigating a report of a couple people celebrating on a roof top proves its true. The others all remember seeing the video but it was, of course, completely scrubbed from the internet. The same Internet where nothing has ever been completely removed.

I lived in a town in NJ that was adjacent to one of the towns where this is alleged to have occurred. During the days after the attacks word spread about the alleged celebrations. Most of what I heard were second or third hand accounts, but my friend's father who was a police office in the other town said he had seen the celebrations. I got the impression that it was more in the hundreds of people than thousands.

Remember that this was before smartphones were ubiquitous so not everyone had a camera with them. I don't expect any here to take my word for it, as I wouldn't either.

That's fair. At this point it's clear no hard proof will ever emerge. I think Trump is a buffoon and I don't want him to be president, but stories did circulate in the NJ area immediately after the attack which is probably why he thinks it was widely covered.

A "normal" politician would have the good sense not to say something like this but that's exactly the reason that people like Trump.

Like I said, his was one of one or two first hand accounts that I heard. I heard many second hand accounts and the stories were relatively consistent. Obviously I can't say for sure that it happened, but there are many people in the area who take it for granted that it did.

My best guess is that it did happen but that it was relatively small and short lived.

There were several places around the world that had people in the streets cheering the WTC attack. As best I remember they were all in Arab and Muslim countries. I do not recall any video or even talk of such celebrations in the USA.

In fairness to Trump (not a way I typically start a sentence), I distinctly remember reports on 9/11 of this happening in Jersey City or one of the other Jersey towns facing lower Manhattan. I certainly never saw any footage of it, though, and I have no idea whether the reporting on this happening was even accurate.
