why make this a post for "myself" when the whole point of AT is to help others? Let's hear from all you freeware buffs!


1. html editing (arachnophilia, html-kit)

2. image editing (the GIMP)

3. video processing/rendering (to make analog captured movies into like divx or other web format for friends)

3b. ftp client software (WSFTP_LE)

4. any other freeware u would recommend if i couldnt download anything else for a year

PS i have windows xp and office so i am not making a full switch to open source, but i figure that there are lots of people doing hard work to make good freeware programs.
PPS i do not have anything against people using ads to pay for licensing costs, but i dont want to have adware if at all possible.

HTML Editing: I agree with Arachnophilia and Eversoft's 1stPage. I like Arachnophilia best, just because I've learned to work so quickly and so precisely with it.

General Image Production: the Gimp fer shur

General Image Handling / Viewing / Conversion: IrfanView

Text Editor: EditPad (Okay, it's postcardware. I don't actually use it any more since I prefer NoteTab, but that's not free.)

Utilities:

- Any of the freeware from Sysinternals, like contig and pagedefrag
- SmartFTP
- MultiRen - multi-file renaming extension to Explorer
- RegCleaner
- RegCompact
- PowerToys
- Xteq's X-Setup
- Slice32 - file slicer
- WnBrowse and / or XVI32 - for light hex viewing (XVI32 is actually an editor)
- Agent Ransack - search tool
- Any Password - password repository
- WinCrypt or PGP free - encryption and file wiping
- AVG - best freeware anti-virus I know of that is fully functional in WinXP (But I use NOD32.)
- Ad-Aware - anti-spyware utility

Oly jeez I though I was the only one using this gem.... This is something that PCMag released for free in 1998, you can find it at their site, very usefull for renaming large quatity of files.
