My zenith arrives tomorrow. However I will still be held back waiting on the EK waterblock. I am pretty sure the aquacomputer 480 rad and 360 will keep the threadripper in check along with my dual 1080 ti's

I've seen some pretty bad reviews on that Aquacomputer AMS rad where thermal performance is very mediocre. Hopefully it works out well for you.
I got an alphacool 480 monsta rad just for TR once I get my stuff.

LOL, I love Steve but he really needs just a tad more polish on his video.. He just threw shit together on the board and didn't even give mention to the Noctua. It's not even listed on their site. I bumped into it by mistake. Steve ! Give the Noctua cooler a 5min video man... you're the only one w/ it. LMFAO
Firefox Nightly 57 a1 64-bit really pukes on that video, once YouTube switches to the 4K UHD @ 60 stream. (I'm on a 4K60 display.) I get like 1 frame every 20 seconds, if that.

Edge, in Windows 10 64-bit, of course, plays it back 4K60 smoothly.

I'm using a Kaby Lake G4600 (HD 630 iGPU), which IS 4K60 ready for VP9 decoding.

I tried setting the windows media flags to TRUE in "about:config", too, in Firefox, to enable WMV decoding. Didn't seem to help. (Although, I didn't restart the browser.)

What is everyone's initial opinions of the new TR builds? Looks rather smooth in the comments so far, and some great synthetics. General impressions and/or opinions?

Has anyone gotten 4-8 sticks of 16 GB working at DDR4 3600+? What about 8 sticks @ 3200? I really want to start on my Threadripper build, but I really want to target 64 GB of RAM and I'd rather not be 'stuck' with 8x8. In my current machine I never upgraded from 16 GB because I had 4x4 GB and didn't want to have to replace those. I want to be able to add RAM in the future without issue.

Unless I missed it, I am actually the only one that has posted after getting their build done. If I missed someone, let me know !! I see some got parts, and are getting parts, and I see the picture above, but no benchmarks or build pictures except me ??

Edit: to those just now building, I had to press very hard to get screws number 2 and 3 on the CPU socket to "catch" That was my only glitch.

CPU and Motherboard are in.... Now it is a waiting game on the ek water block. The old 5960x will have to stay in the rig a little longer. Anyone need a 5960x and board..

Sigh, if I had only waited for TR. I bought, ehh, "several" Ryzen 5 rigs. Would have preferred TR, but ... even at the relatively bargain price of $999, well, that was slightly too much. OK, it would be quite a jump for me to go from Celerons to ThreadRipper, but whatever, YOLO and all that.

Edit: I think, I made the right choice though. I don't have any real demand for more PCI-E lanes or DRAM channels, and the extra RAM and big motherboard are just extra expenses, when I just really wanted cores, and they don't have to be on the same machine. (DC works that way, mostly.)

If I were video-editing, or compressing, or 3D rendering, then yes, sure, I'd be better off paying for TR instead of multiple Ryzen desktop rigs, but at least I saved a little coin.

Plus, I could, in theory, if Zen 2 on 7nm (?) increases the number of cores on their desktop platform to 12C/24T, then I could drop those in, and double my core counts. Still, all without buying into the TR HEDT platform.

That's not to say that you shouldn't buy TR. If you can afford it, go for it, it's a darn sexy bit of kit!

BTW, there seems to be a clearance issues w/ the Asus board and Noctua :
@4:51. Noctua's fin stack covers a whole PCIE lane. This issue is likely not present on :

I recall AMD giving these guys a nogo zone. I'm not sure how Asus managed to design a board with the 1st PCIE slot so ass close to the socket on an E-atx board where they have more room than everyone else. So yeah, Taichi looks more official by the day

Looking now at Noctua NH-U14S manual http://noctua.at/media/blfa_files/manual/noctua_nh_u14s_tr4-sp3_manual_en.pdf

It has an offset that can be applied for better PCI-E cards clearance

Its posible that with this offset, GC could be installed in the Zenith first PCI-E slot after all?

Nope.
The distance between the center of the CPU and the first PCI-E slot (point where it is still usable) is < 6cm.
Not much point in using < 120mm wide coolers on TR anyway.

Good taste in rum!
My pile o stuff, possibly inspired by you. I probably won't get to the actual build for another couple of days.

Nice -- which model Corsair case is that? The 750D is on my short-list, but I'd really prefer something shorter like the Define R5, but with at least 65mm clearance between top and motherboard.

It's the 750D Airflow. We have a workstation build at work with a 450D and this case doesn't look too much bigger, for which I'm glad. I wanted something that would accommodate four GPUs.

What do you mean? I totally need 16 cores to type up reports in Word.
Hehehe, the new 16core Atom might be the right tool for you /offtopic

I am watching this as a peasant, it's like watching a bunch of Ferrari flying by... Still, highly entertaining to see so much CPU power. Never thought that we will have 32threads in 2017 after a decade of 4c/8t max

I ordered yesterday my build. It's been nearly a decade that I have been using an i7 920 build so I'm quite excited. Love the 60 PCIe lanes. I'm expecting parts in a couple of weeks, the MB isn't available at the time in my region.

CPU : 1920x
MB : X399 Fatal1ty
RAM : G.Skill 2400 2x16Gb
Cooling : I'll order an Enermax LiqTech 240 TR when it's available
