It's been nearly a decade that I have been using an i7 920 build so I'm quite excited.

Now that is what I call a worthy upgrade. Have fun building...

I've had a number of e-mail exchanges with Noctua. They've sent out units to people to review. However, they've only just now gotten a retail unit from AMD to do their testing w.r.t to final TDP specs. I was told updated TDP specs will be released soon and unit availability to retailers near the end of this month. This is inline with their previous commentary. Overall, it was a comfy experience. Never before have I had such frank conversations with a company about their product.

As for the build thread, I have all of my parts in hand. It's just been a crazy week (shipments every day) and had to make very important decisions as to what vidya card to invest in. The X399 Taichi boxing is beautiful btw ! Aesthetics are important and select companies have nailed it along w/ function.

I've been doing multiple builds, parts replacements, and upgrades as of late. I will finish w/ the ripper build.

I hope you guys are ready for this timeline and have your builds dialed in...

So looks like a few manufacturers will be having a much larger waterblock with fins that covers most of the IHS rather than just an extended cold plate like EK.

Likely looking at the end of the month for XSPC and Swiftech and Sept 6th for Heatkiller. I'm getting antsy waiting for a proper watercooling solution.
In the meantime my 480 monsta rad is getting prepped for TR usage soon

Has anyone gotten 4-8 sticks of 16 GB working at DDR4 3600+? What about 8 sticks @ 3200? I really want to start on my Threadripper build, but I really want to target 64 GB of RAM and I'd rather not be 'stuck' with 8x8. In my current machine I never upgraded from 16 GB because I had 4x4 GB and didn't want to have to replace those. I want to be able to add RAM in the future without issue.

8x8GB should be preferable to 4x16GB as SS modules have better timings in comparison to DS modules. It's clear if you look at G.Skill website and compare various modules. They also support higher frequencies. You should use the 16GB modules only if you want maximum supported memory = 8x16GB.

I favored 8 GB module to allow for max supported capacity in a more or less near future.

Ha, I've been watching this thread from a similar perspective! I've been on an i7-970 Gulftown since January 2011, nothing has been worth considering until now. No budget for it this year, maybe next year...

I have 12 of them rocking on my 3 XSPC RX480 V3 rads in rig 1 below.

They truly are exceptional fans. I've owned a wide variety of fans over the years from Corsairs, Noctuas and have 140mm ek vardars on my 560 rad but the GTs blows them all out of the water.

I went from 4 Gentle Typhoons on a H100 to 4 Noiseblocker eLoop B14s on a H115i. The Gentle Typhoons are the best I have ever owned, but the Noiseblockers are not far behind. Have you tried them yet?

GTs are made by Nidec Servo. Sold as Darkside now.

Scythe stopped making them a while ago but I have the original Scythe GT AP15s as well as the newer Darkside GT that is a collaboration between Dazmode and Nidec.
I can't really tell a difference between the two except the fact that the Nidec has a higher RPM (2150 vs 1850).

How did you install it? Did you get the special bracket swiftech is currently selling for TR?

I used the bracket that came with the CPU. It works until the eb water block comes in.

All set up! I need to finish installing software and downloading some benchmarks. For anyone who has trouble installing Windows 10, make sure to disable IOMMU in the BIOS!
Also, the HyperX Predator 4x8GB memory kit seems to be running at its advertised speed without issues (3200, 16-18-18). I just used the Memory Try It option in the MSI BIOS. These are Hynix chips so maybe someone finds that info useful.

I'd move the 2nd card down to the next X16 slot and get a 2-slot space SLI bridge.
