I reached out to MSI and they gave me a beta BIOS that fixes the fan profiles! REJOICE! lol. My commander pro is defective, so I had to send it back. Thank god that the fan profiles work now.

The ML120s don't do a very good job at keeping the 1950X cool, probably due to the 1600 RPM. I'll have to spring for some SP120 RGBs when I have the chance. It looks like you really do need those high RPM (2300+) fans in order to keep things running cool under load when overclocked.

I don't think the SP120 RGB's are any better. Max RPM for them is roughly 1500 or so. The original SP120's are loud when at full blast, but they do a good job. They are around 2700 RPM's.

They don't run at the full 2350 or whatever? That's sad. I just changed to a new case and I really wanted RGB fans in the front. I need a good trio of RGB fans that can hit high RPMs. Anyone have any thoughts?

Also, the SP120s are only loud when at 100%. Running them at 25-50% isn't bad. The enermax fans fun at the same speed as the SP120s, but they are quieter. I'll probably try my SP120s in pull configuration later to see if that solves my issue. I could also just leave it as is. Temps get into the mid 70s at 4GHz when running Prime95 small settings. Before with the enermax fans alone temps would stay around 65C and in push/pull it would be even cooler.

The SP 120 RGB fans max RPM is 1400 +/- 10%. Not 2300+. The original SP120 fans have a max of 2700 or so.

I have been running my TR4 since October but only recently started overclocking. Still have a lot of tweaks and stuff to do before I am finished with the build. I have an Enermax AIO TR4 240 which does get loud when the 1950X is maxed out but is pretty quiet otherwise. The Enermax 360s were sold out everywhere when I was purchasing. That is on the list along with G.Skill F4-4266C19D-16GTZA which i should be able to run at 3600 on my board.
I am going to replace the fans on my radiator for something quieter. Any recommendations?

If you don't overclock, you can get away with anything. When running at stock, my fans barely ever run, even when the system is under load (nothing like a silent PC encoding a video). However, overclocking is a different story...

I'm thinking about bringing my storage up to the level of the threadripper CPU.

What do you think ?
- Throwing out my 4 sata SSD totaling 1.75tb
- Getting a 280gb pcie Intel 900p for Windows and apps and a Samsung 960 1tb m2 for storage.

I saw tests of the Intel SSD but no real world data like Windows boot time.

https://www.computerbase.de/2017-11/intel-optane-ssd-900p-test/2/#abschnitt_praxistests

Windows start should be the same as on any other NVMe SSD, i.e. only unnoticeably faster than on a SATA SSD. The 900p should be good for a database index or some other special application which specially benefit from low random R/W access times. For a workstation OS & applications disk, you can as well use a flash based SSD, have more capacity, and save money at the same time.

I like EK Vardar, Gentle Typhoon, BeQuiet Silent Wings. Thermalbench is a good site to check out: http://thermalbench.com/category/fans/

I finally got around to installing the heatkiller block today. I know a few people were waiting for this but I went on vacation for 3 weeks so it had to take a back seat.

Here are some shots of the EK and the heatkiller block. My load temps have dropped anywhere between 15-20C. Prime95 is maxing out at 55C at 4Ghz.

I imagine my temps will rise around 10C in summer as it's around 0F outside today where I live

I've been checking my mailbox for a month looking for mine. I think I messed up (or was drunk) when I ordered. Couldn't find the order# or charge anywhere, so I ordered again

Or you never hit the "Place Order" when it was in your cart

I’m waiting on a replacement Enermax 360 currently since the first one was leaking from the factory.

Also waiting on delivery of a Powercolor Vega 56.

Maybe I can build this next weekend.

Possible. I was looking at the MB-X blocks and a Vega 64 block too. I might have forgot when I was looking to see if they were available at a US etailer , found the GPU block at modmymods.
I did register at their site - think I had to , to order and I remember looking at the plexi pre-order. Oh well, if I end up with 2, I'll have to build another system

That thing is a beast. I am very close to pulling the trigger on an EK custom loop (with soft tubing to start off with). So I can overclock. How does the heat killer compare to the EK block in terms of temps?

He was previously using an EK block = Heatkiller far better for max OC.

Did you try it at 4.2 or 4.3 ghz? Note that you may have to tweak LLC for 4.2+. Just curious. My enermax 360 can handle 4.0 at around 60C, but once you go beyond that, things start to get out of control.

Can you provide more details of your rad, fans, etc?

I can run it at 4.1ghz and get around 63C at 1.381V. I am unable to get a stable overclock past that as it requires voltages greater than 1.45V. Don't see the point in pushing it past that just for an additional 100mhz.
I have a 480mm 85mm thick radiator in push pull configuration with just the CPU in the loop.

Well. EKWB custom loop ordered but I will be using the heatkiller block instead of the EKWB one and I bought some TT white pre-mix coolant (staying within the theme of my build). My first custom loop...exciting. Plus I will be able too overclock....

Really? Interesting...I can get mine to 4.2, after that, motherboard power delivery becomes an issue. Disabling 4 cores gets me 4.3. 4.4 boots, but freezes once you get to the desktop.

I’ll be interested to see how far my 1900X can go.

The same 180W as the 1950X but only half the cores. So power delivery should be better.

What’s the safe maximum voltage for every day overclocks and what’s ok for short term benchmarks?

1.35V is what AMD recommends. Stay at or below 1.4375 or your chip will degrade.

To hit those higher overclo with lower voltages you need to learn how LLC works for your board.
