I'm now almost positive that's my problem.. When I open up ryzen master, my GPU spins up to boost clocks. That, in addition to my high-ish overclocks is overloading the PS.

Maybe you could just temporarily down clock your gpu and see if it helps.

I do 720 at stock, at OC, it got to 920 watts..... What video cards do you have ? Probably get a 1200-1500 to make sure this never happens again, and at least a platinum one....

I love my 1200AX's....

Not enough.... I use AX1200 Corsairs on all my TR's (but they all have 2 1080TI's and draw 720 from the wall).

I am pretty sure thats your problem.
I was looking at the Corsairs, but I couldn't figure out the difference between the AX1200 and HX1200. Managed to stumble on a Seasonic SSR-1200PD for $250 (last in stock). PCpartpicker hasn't had them listed since middle of Jan. Now I need $650 for an online UPS.

The HX1200i is the cheaper version than the AX1200i.

Oh I have a beautiful idea. So wondrous, you guys are going to nickname me Linus from now on.I'm going to hook up a 550 watt PS to the other CPU connector....

Oh and an edit, A hard reset of CMOS (unplug of battery + screwdriver to the reset CMOS pins) dropped power usage by more than 200 watts. Another MSI bug. I don't know why I leave the battery plugged in anway. It's actually never lost any settings.

The only time I've had something similar happen was when I updated BIOS and loaded a profile from a previous BIOS rather than starting over.

1) I have done it both ways. So long as its 2 sets of the exact same memory.
2) I have 3 threadrippers. All use the 4x8 gig config of the same samsung b-die kits as in that spec. I have one set of flare-x quad channel sitting on the table ready for threadripper
number 4.

Link newegg kits with exact models, and I can tell you which I have.

Aww, c'mon Mark. You know you want to do an Epyc. ;-)

Hmm, assuming that I can deal with my current expenses + debt, I might be interested in building a TR2 rig, once it releases. If it can hit 4.3Ghz, with 16Cores/32Threads, that would be a sight of tech beauty.

Starting to think, that I don't need rigs strewn throughout the apt. Maybe just a few small boxes (already have several Deskmini units, which will do 4K60 thanks to my Club3D DP-to-HDMI2.0 adapters), and one "big beefy rig" for gaming, DC, etc.

No no, its disaster in the making, never use different PSU. You PSU can actually explode

So, what are your temps for anyone using enermax liqtech tr4 360 liquid cooler?

Funny, I was getting temps bouncing around from high 60's to low 70's... Then it started creeping up to mid 80's!

At first I thought something was wrong with the cooler... So, I stopped all DC production and waited for amazon to deliver a tube of arctic mx-4 compound. When I got around to taking the cooler off the TR...it looked fine, the compound wasn't all dried up and it seemed evenly covered.

Anyway, I cleaned the old stuff off, and applied the new compound and bolted it down. Now... It's just strange, at 100% load with seti, I get a SOLID 67C temp. It never goes up or down, just stays at that temp forever, even with the graphics card at full tilt running at over 75C.... still all cores remain at 67C. I'm thinking about disconnecting a few fans in the case and see if it changes any (they are kinda loud).

Just wondering what your temps are? I should also note: I did change the clock frequency from 3.4 to 3.6, just a small bump.

Thanks!

I'm also thinking maybe the cooler wasn't bolted all the way down the first go around... or something wasn't installed right, but I think it's installed properly now. Then again, maybe enermax compound was crap. Hmmmmmmm.....

Yes, I use the tr4 360 on 2 of my 3 TR's. It keeps them under 85c when I OC to 4.0 at full load. After that they go up a lot. I just stick to stock, it kicks hiney at that speed anyway,

We are talking about Tdie right? I dunno why there are two values for TR. Everyone says to just ignore Tctl temp readings. So... That's what I do.

Mine tops out at 65C (idle: 30C) in worst case scenario using Prime95 - then the fans spin up higher thanks to steep fan curve - but under normal high load its mid 50s. Using Cryorig QF120 Balance fans on the TR4 360 in push instead of the stock fans and Prolimatech Pk-3 thermal compound. 3.9GHz all-core at 1.25v.

Didn't know about Ryzen Master, but yeah I guess it's reading T-die as it says 67.00 C LOL.

I use HWiNFO64 because I load it up on the menu tray for easy access to temps and any other temps I may want to monitor like GPU, SSD, RAM, etc.

I found this interesting....

https://www.anandtech.com/show/12454/analyzing-threadripper-cooling-big-base-cooling-wins/5

I'm about to buy one... But I question the testing results. Most people don't use TR to run full load 24/7 like I do.

So... how long can it keep the cpu cool at full load? I found it interesting that Anand did not post any times for how long the testing went on, or they also did not post noise levels of the fan at different speeds.

But, I'd seriously be interested in getting one and trying it out. From the tests, it seems like it would do a much better job than my enermax ....

Thoughts?

No comparison to the AIO coolers. I think that is required.

At stock 180W TDP and stock clocks/voltages, an air cooler designed for the TR4 socket (e.g. Noctua, or Arctic Cooling 33TR) are adequate to keep under the 68°C temperature on air. My Threadripper 1950X was able to be cooled adequately running 100% BOINC loads at stock settings using the 33TR before I sold it to Tony, who also reports it is adequate for air cooling the TR1950X.

If you plan to OC you will want something better, however.

OK, 2 E5-2683v3 sold with motherboards and memory...56 threads@2.5 gone

So....

Threadripper number 4 ordered. And the CPU for $869 and $19 off with Enermax TR4 360 combo

Adding 32 threads@3.9~ish...

I can't wait for the 2950X, it will be number 5.

@Markfw definitely waiting on the 2950X along with the chipset refresh. It will be my reward for a successful surgery in June. Going to be watching the motherboard reviews super close though. I am also going to be badgering AnandTech staff and Gamer's Nexus to take a deeper look at BIOS related functionality and bugs. I've actually seen certain sites give this MSI board a perfect review, yet it is below average at best. I am also going to be upgrading to DDR4 3600 as well...so basically building a new machine lol. A lot of people aren't expecting a huge IPC increase, but we are now seeing one. Either that or the extra TDP and improved precision boost of the 2700X allows it to boost much higher than the 95 watt TDP of the 1800X. in Geekbench, the 2700X was neck in neck with a Threadripper, 8 cores @ 4.3, dual chan ddr4 3200. That's a hell of a statement for AMD to make with a refresh.

You know, with each threadripper build, I get less and less excited about them. Kind of sad, as when I started this thread, I could hardly sleep waiting for the parts to come in, build it and benchmark it. Now its just "oh well, another box to do my DC work, the parts will be in next week...."

Progress....

BUT When the 2950x comes out, I think the excitement may come back !!!!
