I have been using it with gmail for years and it has been great. You can also get a conversation view addon to make it more like the gmail web interface. As far as I can tell, it has the same functionality.

How is this in a work environment? I was thinking about deploying this to try and get people off of outlook express. Trying to stream line things and get things up to date and the First things to go are IE8, Outlook Express, and windows XP in that order.

I only use it at home, but i think it would be fine in a smaller environment.
IMO The only issue is if you have a lot of machines, it is cumbersome to update them all.

Windows have lots of ways to remotely update machines. If you have more than 5 or so, you should definitely check into that, unless all your users are very tech-savvy.

Thunderbird is leagues ahead of Outlook Express. OE have always been a bug-ridden piece of crap, and Microsoft gave it up years ago. Kick it out as soon as possible.

Thunderbird is great for work environment. I don't know if you ever used the program Eudora for email. It was what I used for years until they quit producing it, but it didn't die. Eudora code was given to mozilla to be used in thunderbird and essentially a lot of what you see now in thunderbird is from Eudora. Eudora was the standard in email for a lot of years and businesses used it quite a bit.

There is an open source eudora but it isn't the eudora of old , stick with thunderbird. It kept the good things from eudora.
