Ti4200 8x 128mb vs Radeon 9600 Non-Pro

I have a GF4 Ti4200 8x AGP 128mb which is great for counterstrike (what isn't these days?). But I'm finally starting to play some newer games (games that use dx9 and have lots of eye candy). I only bought the Ti4200 like 1 month ago for around $80. I can easily resell it on ebay for $65-$85.

Now we all heard about the rumored $70 AR Radeon 9600 Non-Pro.

Should I pick up the 9600 NP and sell my ti4200 (so basically swapping the cards for free)?

Would I be downgrading? If they both run at LEAST the same speeds then I have no reason not to swap it out right? I think the 9600 NP is worth more anyway.

If it helps, I only managed to overclock my ti4200 to 275mhz/525mhz (not much of an overclock).

Please give me advice, but no suggestions on buying the 9600/9500 pro as it cost almost 2 times more even though I know it's MUCH better. It's either I get the 9600 non-pro or keep my ti4200. No other choice. =)

Thanks in advance!

9600np for 70$!? Where?
I'd get it. You can probably OC the core very well, maybe even the memory. Which brand is it?

Look in the hot deals forum for more info on where.

What is the difference between the pro and non-pro? Just core speed and memory speed right? Oh and the fact that the pro is actively cooled versus the passively cooled non-pro.

What's the chances of overclocking a non-pro to pro speeds? Good?

I believe they use slower memory on the 9600NP, so you're unlikely to get it up to real Pro speeds (at least on the memory; the core should go way up). Also, you can passively cool *any* RADEON card -- just check out Zalman's heatpipe coolers.

The 4200 will likely still be faster in DX8.1 tasks, although the 9600NP will do (relatively) well with AA/AF or in DX9.0. But I'm not sure either will really have enough power to run Doom3 or HL2 well.

Also keep in mind that a 9600Pro for $150 will probably include a coupon for HL2 when it comes out (at least if it's a BBA model). This makes its effective price lower. But if you won't stretch for one of those, then just keep the 4200. It runs most games faster than the 9600NP will right now.
