I went from a Ti4200 to a 9700 Pro.. I was happy with the results... but it probably wasn't worth the money.
oh well.. that's what comp. geeks do!!!

Scar13, I have a very similar system to yours (see P4C in sig) and my 64meg Ti4200 is still a rocket in just about everything other than Halo and certain scenes in Call of Duty. I always play with details @ the max at around 1024x768, no AA, but I have 8x aniso on. This looks great to me and I've gotta have high fps.

Oh, I did overclock the snot out of my card though... if there were a Ti4500, it would have my clocks.

I'm expecting things to be slower in HL2 and Doom3, but they're not out yet, so a new card isn't needed.

You are wasting a high end system on an old video card. Anyone that tells you it isnt a big upgrade is telling you that because they still have a ti4200 and want to feel like it is still great.

I say hold off on the upgrade as a Ti4200 should be good enough to last for a while longer (especially without AA or AF). And I CAN say this because it's what I chose to do myself.

I'm expecting delivery of a refurbed Gainward Ti4200 on Friday I ordered from Newegg for $71 delivered (replacing a GF3 Ti200).

And no...I'm NOT opposed to buying "current" higher end cards IF the price is right. I just bought a BFG 5900 NU VIVO ~2 weeks ago for $173.49 delivered and I needed another card to upgrade another PC so I ordered the TI4200.

I'd like the Ti4200 to last a year or so before I upgrade to an R420 or NV40 variant. I just couldn't see dropping another ~$200 for a video card when I've never been sorry for waiting for the "next generation" of cards to drop in price. I only ordered the 5900 NU because I needed more gaming power WITH VIVO (which my GF3 does not have).

As long as your games play smooth enough for you with the TI4200...wait to upgrade as you'll pay less to upgrade later.

I say NEVER wait for tomorrow. There will always be something better over the horizon, so get what you need today, use it today.

Also remember the more you wait that?s that much more you?re behind in technology again!

Lies, if my gameplay was a slideshow I'd be looking for an upgrade. The fact is that my framerates stay above 60 with all eyecandy on @ 1024x768 in all games I play except Halo and CoD (some scenes). Saying that I still want to "feel like it is still great" isn't an illusion. There's a reason why it's one of the best $/fps cards around.

Forget what I said about buying a refurb ANYTHING for the PC...my Gainward GF4 Ti4200 arrived today DOA! I was pretty excited to open the box and find all the items which normally come with a retail card and after installing...no video signal AT ALL!

First time I've tried a refurb "anything" for my PCs and it's the last! Not worth the risk and/or the hassle of having to return a broken product I know was broken when Newegg received it back from their 1st customer.
