Which do you think is the better card to get? Assuming both cost the same.

The 9600 pro will not take as big a hit when AA/AF are enabled, and is about as fast as the Ti4600 without AA/AF

They are similar cards in terms of performance, but I would personally go with the 9600 (I currently have a 4600). I believe the 9600 will give you better image quality and it is DirectX 9 compliant.

But if you have a 4600 don't buy a 9600, wait til the next generation of games comes out

The Ti4600 is faster in straight rendering but the 9600 Pro will pull away when you crank up the AA and AF. Also you get DirectX 9 compliance with the ATi card.

This is kind of a hollow victory as the 9600 Pro is too slow/weak to use it's DX9.
It is a better choice than the 4600 for it's AA/AF though. Better yet would be to save another $50 and get a 9700/9800np/5900nu.

9600 Pro, and if you get the XT version you get HL2 for free plus some extra performance.

We will have to see but so far that that doesn?t look like the case to me. I think the 9600pro series is going to prove to be a pretty good DX9 card. The 9600pro/XT had a very strong showing in some of the HL2 benches. digitlife That coast demo was run at maximum detail settings and 16x AF. Some of the settings could easily be reduced to increase the frame rate substantially.

ADD: It looks like the 9600 series can run DX9 code just as fast as DX8. techreport So it?s really going to come down to how well the game is coded, not whether it has DX9.

a 9600 pro waists geforce4 ti 4600 by as much as double fps with both aa and af and is directx9 not like the old and slow ti4600 which is only directx8

check out this new review of all cards ,it shows even 9700 non pro beating nvidia's best card 5950fx ultra in all test using both aa and af in new and old games:

The 4600 is by no means slow, its only weak spot is terrible AA\AF performance and no DX9 support (ATM, very minor IMO). If you can get a 9600 Pro for a not too much more than a Ti4600, then go for it, the image quality will probably be better and you'll be able to crank AA and AF up and still have playable framerates most of the time.

your right a ti4600 wasn't slow when it first came out, but who would buy a new card nowadays that can't handle newer games with aa and af and doesn't even support directx9 ?
For around the same price they can get a 9600 pro or 9600xt that can handle new and old games with all the eye candy cranked, much better than ti4600 can
