I prefer the more subtle approach of pulling out their gun and using the cellphone as a skeet to shoot...and then as well give you the ticket I have no respect for cell phone users on the road...it makes worse drivers out of already bad ones

How many states ban cell phone usage while driveing? Would hand-free set be allowed?

I can understand you are pissed. But hey, think of the positive side, no point!! So pay it after venting for a while.

The deeper question is really if you believe the use of cellphone does not affect your driving. I think I am highly distracted (not to mention I drive a stick-shift car most of the time). Using a hand-free setup is better but still a distraction.

I never figure out why I am not as distracted if I talk to a passenger in the car.

I know NY does. I think MA or NJ does now too.

Are you saying you're not or wondering how it's different from talking on a cell phone?

Myself, talking to a passenger is more distracting. I'm more inclined to look at them while I'm talking; on a cell phone, I look at the road.

Get a cell phone with a speakerphone. That or just plug in your headset when you get in the car.

thanks for all the constructive responses everybody...

anyway to rant: why should this be illegal its not in most other states. i would think yapping to a passenger is just as distracting or refereeing kids in the backseat, or even talking on a headset which so many ppl suggested (which by the way most ppl would hold the phone in their hand anyway!)

is it because u only have one hand on the wheel? then why not ban manual transmission cars? or smoking in your car for that matter? or listening to music?

oh well whats done is done... life goes on...

You deserve it plain and simple. Don't use your goddamn phone while in the car unless you pull over, I'm SURE it can wait.

Tinted window is your friend, unless tinted window on the drivers side is illegal in your state.
Honestly, if there are no points, doesnt involve insurace rate hikes, just pay 50 bucks. Your time for dealing with this hassle is definately worth more than 50 bucks if u have a decent job.

CA is going to ban cell phone usage for teenagers (maybe minors). I am glad. I had this girl almost run me off the road last year and it scared me half to death. She was talking on her phone and didn't even see me, and she basically pulled directly over into my car, but I managed to brake and swirve onto the shoulder. She didn't even notice me scowling over at her either, when I eventually pulled beside her. People that don't have the ability to drive undistracted should not be allowed to drive, period.

That sucks. I'm just one of those ppl who don't see anything wrong with driving while on the cell phone(with a hands free set). I mean, how is it much different from having conversing with a car full of ppl?

im glad you got this ticket, and you should just pay it. i am sick of seeing cars on the road swerve or make unsafe lane changes, then when I get up next to em to pass em they are talking on the phone. it is just ridiculous. I think the law is a great law and should be strictly enforced. I live right near DC and recently they have been enforcing it alot, which I am all for.

I didn't read the thread, but the legal definition of "Operator" is a driver on a highway.

I believe when they say highway they mean any public road.

plead not guilty and request a trial by jury, assuming you are allowed one in your state.
