Ticketmaster's "Service Fees"

I recently bought 4 Edgefest tickets by phone (which was NOT Toll-Free, and they sure did take their sweet time).

Anyway, the tickets were $42.50 each, or something like that, so I figured it would be well under $200, right? Wrong, the swindelers charge and extra $6.75... per ticket!!!!!

Not only that, but if you aren't picking up the tickets ad a ticketmaster office (the closest one to me is about 10-12 hours away), the only way to get the tickets delivered to you is via expedited delivery, which costs yet an additional $8.00 + tax. So, after the taxes are added on, that's nearly $40.00 - just in ticketmaster crap! Yeesh......

Ticketmaster sucks. To bad other bands didn't boycott when Pearl Jam did, if they would have, those service fees may have been reduced or eliminated.

Ticket master huh? It's closer to DICK-ME-MASTER.

I went to Ozzfest in Chicago last year. On every single ticket they stuck on a 3.50 "service fee" as well as a $3.00 PER TICKET parking charge. Never mind the number of cars, vans, and SUV's that were hauling 4-8 people a piece. Take those numbers x 200,000 tickets sold and that's a SH!T LOAD of $$$$$.

In NC, if I sell a ticket, I can charge $2 over the price legally, but TicketMaster can charge whatever the hell they want!

What's the deal with that? Why can't I tack on a 20% service charge?

<< Ticketmaster sucks. >>

Yep, that is why I only go to smaller venues that don't use this pile.

Yeah, but the problem with that is, if you want to see a really big festival or big name concert, chances are you're gonna have to deal with ticketmaster because that's who the bands always contract out to take care of the tickets.

Are you talking about scalping laws or something? I just recently found out that there are absolutely NO scalping laws in Nova Scotia! I can't wait until the next big event here..... which .....will probably be .....in the year 2020 or something......

$7 service charge is nothing. Tickets for the HFStival around here were $35 per day but Ticketmaster had a Service charge of $20 per ticket. One of the reasons im not going this year.

I hate ticket brokers too. How can they sell tickets for 3 times the real value and get away with it? :|

Yeah but you wait outside all night and find the place sold out 15 min. after tickets go on sale your SOL. Its all a scam, been that way for 30 yrs. Nobody can sell that many tickets that fast unless its to brokers that have their orders already setup beforhand. I don't understand why some Attorney General somewhere hasn't made a name for themselves by coming down on ticketmaster.

Why are they allowed to be this kind of a monopoly?

Why are there no competitors?

There are a few competitors, I forget the names, but they never really got the venue support needed to compete - likely because most bands and locations are appealed by ticketmaster's long-standing ability to sell their tickets that they don't really want to move over to a new guy.

Service fees do suck. Ticketmaster goes a little out of hand with them. In Texas we also have StarTickets. They were good about fees at one point, but I bought $12 concert tickets, and the service fees piled up to $4 each. It was ridiculous.
